Best way to prepare for 1L year
I have read many threads on TLS about preparing for the subject matter of law school, but found few (and usually outdated) advice on how to develop the reading/writing skills need in law school. As a Computer Science UG major, I would consider myself out of practice with writing and I did fairly little reading in my childhood.
What would you recommend to get my reading/writing levels up to the point were I'm not going to be at a disadvantage when school starts?

Read the labels of the beer you drink over the summer. That's it.

If you want a review of the basics when it comes to writing, skim through http://www.amazon.com/Elements-Legal-St ... 0195141628

I'm afraid your deadpan sarcasm will be taken as serious adviceRegulus wrote:The best way to prepare for law school before classes start is to sit in on actual classes at actual law schools and take as many notes as possible. Raising your hand to answer questions will also help mentally prepare you for the rigors of a legal education.

In the words of the venerable Bernard Shaw (though I believe he merely made famous a saying first penned by a less illustrious predecessor Wayne McDermott). "Chill out, biddy"
However, I do suggest pleasure reading any books that you have been meaning to get around to and do some day tripping. There is plenty of time for beer and exam prep during law school, but reading for fun, and that 4 hour road trip to America's Biggest Apple Pie go out the window.

Only academic prep I would recommend is that if your typing speed is slow, you should work on that. Many of the finals are just typing speed races. Good luck.

I agree with the recommendation about typing practice.
I would say most people on this forum agree that any type of 0L prep is waste of time.
But if you're really anxious, there is advice on this forum about 0L prep. You'll have to search for it. More importantly, you should search for posts about how to handle the 1L workload once you start the semester.
