Congrats. I just got in, and I'm stoked.

I'm waiting on a few other schools, but I'm giving it serious consideration. Do you know when we will hear about any scholly info?

Congrats to you too! I think we find out in Feb. Are you from NYC?

Also, for those who are leaning towards BC and haven't been to Boston, PM or just post here if you have questions about the city...won't be able to answer all, but I could be of some use. I've lived in Boston for a year and a half. I live in the North End which is pretty far from BC (commute will be bad), but I also lived in Brookline for a while so I know that area as well.
Congrats! BC already gave you a scholly? I haven't heard anything yet :(

I am from NYC, what about you?

I just read through the packet they sent in the mail and went over the scholarship info. They also sent me a reminder about the Public Interest Scholarship through e-mail. I'm hesitant to apply because it restricts you to public interest and government internships, which is what I'd want to do , but who knows what I'll be thinking after a year or two in law school...

I'm probably going to head to the ASD on Feb 22nd. Hoping to see some of you there

Yeah, I reside in Manhattan.

Word but again, the scholarship is appealing given the tuition and living expenses.

ASD is Feb 22nd? That's around the time they'll be sending financial aid right? Time to go and suck up to the financial aid office!

I also live in Manhattan as well. A lot of us New Yorkers seem to be looking to move to Boston...

Edit: Anyone else going to the ASD in March?
Cool! Since we're all in NYC, we should meet up sometime. I'll most likely be attending the March ASD. We should know our $$ by then.

Congrats.

I did the same, with some tweaking to the first answer. I am planning on sending it out today.

I will be coming up for ASD this month as well. I'm committed to BC as long as they at least match the scholarship I received from BU.

I would be all for grabbing some drinks with some fellow TLS'ers if others are interested.

Hi! I'm a BC Law 1L. Though I can't muster much advice/input re: the post-grad job search, please feel free to shoot questions on admissions, classes, professors, student life, etc.

How much do students study per week? Per day? What study methods did you find useful/efficient?

It reallllly varies depending on the individual student and what point in the semester it is, so I can't make a sweeping generalization. For obvious reasons, 1Ls tend to be more intense, but I've not met anyone here that I could describe as "cutthroat" or "out to get you". Early on it's nice, I'd say 5-6 hours prep a day, so 40ish hours/week. Closer to finals, it ratchets up to 10-12 hours/day, so 80ish hours/week. Your mileage may vary. Some people work less than I do, others more. The important thing is to not regard law school as Undergrad Part II and treat it as if it were a full time job. Work hard, but don't burn out, and remember to take care of yourself, physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

Re: study methods, I'll give some advice on what I did for the class I got an A in (Ks):
-Nitty gritty details of cases don't matter, at least for my prof. Focus on the BLL, how to apply it, and arguing both sides. Briefing cases is a waste of time beyond the first few weeks of classes when you're still getting used to reading cases. I instead rainbow hi-lite--facts in yellow, issue in pink, holding in blue, reasoning in orange, etc. I also annotate in the margins.
-Don't get caught up in what everyone else is doing--figure out what works for YOU!
-Don't worry about looking stupid in class. It doesn't matter. At all.
-Do lots of practice problems, esp. those written by the prof. CALI lessons are also helpful in hammering out the BLL if your prof doesn't give you enough of their own. I can't underestimate how valuable this is
-Talk to your professor during office hours! Show them answers to their hypos, your outline, ask them ?s about what they like structure wise, etc. If your prof. has a TA (a student who aced the class in prior years), they are a great resource too.
-Go to class! Take good notes. Sit in the front and don't dawdle on the internet.
-Treatises can be helpful if your prof isn't the best at explaining concepts, but don't go overboard. I wouldn't do more than 1 supplement per class. For Ks, Farnsworth is pure gold.
-Create an outline of the course starting, at the latest, Nov. 1. People started much later and did fine, but it's just really stressful. Condense the tangled morass of your class notes, casebook and supplement into one clean document. Keep it SHORT! My Ks outline was not even 10 pages.

I hope this was helpful--feel free to shoot more ?s!
