Hah, I'm looking for old stuff to sell as well. Burning through cash while not brining in more cash, uhhh...
Spent the afternoon restoring my iPhone 3GS as I'm going to sell it on Amazon. A new Samsung Galaxy S4 is on the way...

Re: Texas Class of 2016
Warning: Co-op is not processing (online) book orders until 8/15/2013
I ordered my books right after the 1L booklist was released (early August). However, the book order has been "in progress" for the last few days. I contacted Co-op about this issue and they mentioned that all book orders would not be "processed" until on or after 8/15/2013 (when the new books arrive).
I asked them about the availability of used books (my order is mostly, if not completely, used books). Co-op said that used books are based on what is in stock. Moreover, I asked if students could currently go to the bookstore and buy the books/used books. And of course, Co-op confirmed that students can.
Consequently, it seems that if you planned to purchase used books from Co-op, you might want to reconsider and cancel your order as it seems that used books may not be available when they process the order.

I think you can also choose "do not substitute" which means that when they process your order, if they don't have a used copy, they'll just drop that out of your order. Kind of a pain, but another way to avoid getting new.
Of course, you can identify some of the books that you'll not likely find used (Redbook 3d ed, which came out in June; other newer editions; references people hold onto like their bluebooks and greenbooks).
ETA: For those of you with Albright for CivPro, it looks like you're using the Glannon coursebook (not quite a casebook, more like a textbook). The book is great and is not a typical casebook. More like a well-done textbook. But it was very poorly bound (I would conservatively estimate that 50% of the books in our section had major binding failure). I had to glue mine sometime before spring break.
The book also suffered from poor timing of publication to the point that the publisher issued a 45 page update which read like legislation ("Page 168. At note 2, delete the second paragraph. Add: [two paragraphs])." My tip on this: get some Avery half sheet shipping labels (5126) or their equivalent, print the supplement "2-up" (2 pages per sheet) on those, and then stick them into the book where appropriate. For the most part the updates are the same size as what is being replaced, and some entire cases are replaced. Alternatively, go through the book before the semester starts and mark where the book has been updated to remind yourself to read the updated material rather than the outdated material.

Re: Texas Class of 2016
Thanks for the info. I decided to buy what I could on Amazon/eBay (used books). I still have a few more books to buy though, such as Contracts, 8th Ed. ($200+)... There's some optional material too (Selections for Contracts). I might hold off on the optional material. I already did enough damage on my wallet today, hehe.BVest wrote:I think you can also choose "do not substitute" which means that when they process your order, if they don't have a used copy, they'll just drop that out of your order. Re: Texas Class of 2016
I really think the whole book list thing has been a disaster. On the Co-Op website they didnt even have A Students Guide to Estates in Land and Future Interests: Text, Examples, Problems, and Answer...It also says both the second and third editions of the Redbook are required. Its frustrating we have to deal with this while we are moving and settling in

The shipment for A Student's Guide to Estates etc hasn't even come in to the Co-Op store yet; they're expecting it to come in early next week, and they only have the 3rd edition Redbook in store.timeandspace11 wrote:I really think the whole book list thing has been a disaster. Unrelated to the books, but is anyone ordering the business cards? I like the idea of having some sort of contact info to hand out at some point but I also don't want to look like a colossal douche.

Am I the only person who doesn't feel like the book list was a "disaster?" What exactly are people upset about?

The Co-op bookstore site is frustrating me. How can it claim to have a used edition of a book that came out last week?mg7 wrote:Am I the only person who doesn't feel like the book list was a "disaster?" What exactly are people upset about?

Definitely been enjoying Austin for the two days Ive been here...First night me and my brother checked out 6th street and then went down to Rainey (which is incredible). Definitely going to have to force myself not to enjoy the bar scene here too much.

I thought about ordering business cards because I enjoy winning lunches, but the website indicates that putting 'Rhcp47, potential lunch winner' on my cards would be frowned upon. (Inspired by my favorite comedian).Chaucer1343 wrote:I decided not to buy the cards based on TLS wisdom.hobie2515 wrote:Unrelated to the books, but is anyone ordering the business cards? Future 1Ls:
http://www.half.ebay.com/textbooks is your friend. It's a site run by ebay. Get the ISBNs for your books, search for good deals, and you can probably save about 40-50%. I've used it every semester and usually saved at least a couple hundred bucks. You have to deal with shipping but it's usually pretty reasonable. Be careful buying older editions though, just because it can be really difficult to follow along in class when you've got different page numbers than everyone else.

Has anyb0dy tried to get the Texas Penal Code book yet. Freshlaw says to get the 2013 edition but the latest one I can find is 2012. Do you think an older addition would matter much anyway?
