I'm seriously considering UVA -- that's what 120k in scholarship cash will do, I guess -- and I'm also a little leery of the softball-and-beer culture. But I just have to suppose there's a substantial minority of students who probably aren't so keen about that stuff. I mean, seriously, with 350 people I'm sure there has to be some diversity of tastes, right?danitt wrote:I'm an international. Re: UVA Class of 2016
UVA 1L here-the drunk frat bro image is way overstated. True drunk frat bros aren't smart enough to get into good law schools. Not everybody does softball, they should it's fun, but nobody cares if people don't play. Drinking happens at all law schools, and at all of them some people join in, some people don't. Nobody cares. With the differences in big city vs. college town taken into account, law schools all have fungible atmospheres.questcertainty wrote:I'm seriously considering UVA -- that's what 120k in scholarship cash will do, I guess -- and I'm also a little leery of the softball-and-beer culture. Re: UVA Class of 2016
I called career services yesterday. They said that for the class of 2012, 202/368 were working at big firms at graduation. About 60 people have clerkships. And around 30 people with school funded positions. These numbers are good but it would be nice to have 2013 numbers. I encourage everyone in this thread to call them and pressure them so that they can either give us more stats or start collecting them in the future

I asked if it was 100+ lawyers and he said yes. He was super vague though so I'm not sure I'm 100% confident about the things he said. And I'm not sure why there is no information about how c/o 2013 fared last year. I will probably call again in a few days. But yes, if accurate that would suggest a 60-65% success rate after accounting for clerkships, self-selection, etcNoodleyOne wrote:Wait... define "big firm". Ahh.. too late for that.. But the numbers seem to be (without considering the significant drop in apps again this cycle) 3.49-3.94 165-171.. My GPA is above 75th and LSAT is above 25th.. maybe it happens without ED.AssumptionRequired wrote:Probably only with an EDWalkingPlato wrote:You guys think 3.95/166 would get in? Re: UVA Class of 2016
I really have no clue how schools like UVA will see my app. I was a transfer student undergrad, but screwed up my first year and failed two classes. Was put on academic prob, but turned around and was on dean's honor list from the next semester until transfer, got the only scholarship for my intended major, and retook the failed courses. The way those credits are weighed is making me unsure of how schools read my GPA, but it falls between 3.1 and 3.3, then 3.5 at university. This was all over 10 years ago and I think my addendum explains the circumstances well. Worked the whole time I was in school and became a trademark specialist before applying. 168 LSAT (to those of you who got over 170, my hat is off to you. wow) and solid recs from a former professor and one of the partners of my firm. I'm not holding my breath, but news so far has only been good, albeit mostly with schools a little down the scale.

If you've been out of undergrad 10 years they may cut you some slack. But I would guess you'll need to retake if you want in. 2 more points and you're in.maxiguess wrote:I really have no clue how schools like UVA will see my app. I was a transfer student undergrad, but screwed up my first year and failed two classes. Does anyone have any experience taking any community college classes to pad their LSDAS gpa? I'm contemplating taking some easy math classes at the local community college to boost my GPA.

I'm sure I'm missing something, but how do you expect them to have numbers for the class of 2013, which hasn't graduated yet?ChampagnePapi wrote:I called career services yesterday. Do schools readily give this info? If so I'd love to see TLSers find this out from most of the T14 and make that public. That would be a very interesting metric for everyone to consider.ChampagnePapi wrote:% of participants who got 2L SA's last yearoshberg28 wrote:I'm sure I'm missing something, but how do you expect them to have numbers for the class of 2013, which hasn't graduated yet?ChampagnePapi wrote:I called career services yesterday. Thank you for checking on the other info, though. I'm relieved by there being only 30/368 (or 8.2%) school-funded positions for the c/o 2012. Though still high, that's a much, much nicer amount than the 17% or whatever for c/o 2011.

Its not something released to the public, but has been leaked on TLS for CCN.02889 wrote:Do schools readily give this info? Fairly certain all schools have access to this stuff, they just don't want to share it with us.

Re: UVA Class of 2016
Ok, so not to harp on this, but considering i need to (supposedly) get my jefferson app up soon... I would appreciate it if a 1L could clearly delineate the social cultural differences between jeff and ivy... For sure, I don't doubt that all of the major thurs-sat parties are easy to go to... but from experience, there's also all of the impromptu little kickbacks here and there, that tend to happen in the more social places. For instance, I go to UCSB... while all of the dorms "partied" I quickly realized that francisco torres (you can wiki it... it's that famous) had that little extra... and surprisingly, it was a good environment for me ... I'm just a social butterfly, and my grades actually tend to suffer when I party/socialize less..... yet 200 bucks a month, is 200 bucks a month.... this has been on my mind for a month and I still can't make up my mind. Thus, help!
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
