I don't know if anyone will express interest or not. Mrs. BVest and I will be up there soon enough to look at places. But if you don't want to look like an idiot, just snap photos of the signs with your phone.

April Ludgate wrote:Can anyone recommend an apartment locator close to SMU?
I understand their (apartment locators in general) usefulness and have used them a couple times, but I've never had a good experience. IMO, they only seem to represent the apartments that can't rent themselves due to quality or location. YMMV.

As indicated above, I'm a big fan of setting up an RSS feed on craigslist for search terms I like. It's how we found our last car at a time that they didn't come on the used market often.

I'm a real estate broker in Dallas so I looked up everything listed in the MLS right now between $500/month and $2,000/month. (Single family, condos, townhomes, duplexes, etc.)

East Dallas (75206 & 75214 zips only) - --LinkRemoved--

Park Cities Area - --LinkRemoved--

Uptown/Oaklawn/Downtown - --LinkRemoved--

Not surprisingly, this may not include For Lease By Owner and Craigslist listings.

Enjoy.

When do most people actually sign a lease and move to Dallas?

I moved here the first week of August. It gave me about two weeks to get all moved in and acquainted with the area.

It also gives you two weeks to adjust to living in a blast furnace.

Maybe it's because I grew up in Houston where it's 90%+ humidity and 95F+ for 8 months out of the year, but I find Dallas to be a nice break in the heat. :P

Has anyone received their SMU ID number? They said that we should receive it after paying the first seat deposit.

Got a letter in the mail and set up email, etc. I paid the full deposit, not just half.

When did you receive the letter in the mail? Was it shortly after you paid your deposit?

Paid a while ago. Got the letter on April 25th. It will have your student ID # and give you instructions on how to set everything up.

Paid and ready to go. Two things for people who don't know:

1) The 2015 FT class has a facebook page (SMU Dedman School of Law Class of 2015 FT) that we can use to communicate if you want.

2) We've been talking about helping people find roommates. One of my med school friends said that they made a Google Doc that had a spreadsheet to help people find someone to live with. We thought it was a good idea so I made one today. Anyone can edit it so feel free to use it and add categories if you think something important is missing. Here's the link:

Once you guys get your schedules with your list of profs, if anyone wants to buy my books off me I'll hold on to them rather than selling them back to the store or amazon. You won't know which books you need until you know which profs you have, but I've got the whole set plus all of my supplements (a TON) that I'll happily pass along.

FYI: you should get your schedule around mid-July (at least, that's when we got ours last year).

Created a Facebook page (SMU Dedman School of Law Class of 2016) for those of us that are PT and will be lumped in with next year's incoming class.

Greetings!

I'm wondering if you might be willing to help out a 3E?

My wife and I are going to be moving at the end of the summer and we're trying to get an idea as to what our options are going to be. Would you be able to run a search for me like the one you posted in the SMU 2015 thread?

We're looking to rent in 75075, 75023, 75074, 75094 and Richardson. We're looking for three bedrooms with any housing time (single family to apartment). We need to keep it under $1500/month.

I know that a lot will change between now and the end of the summer, but we're trying to get an idea for what might be feasible for us.

I get it if you can't do it, but I would appreciate your help.

If there's anything I can do for you, please let me know. I did the work + school routine and I've done really well at SMU law. I don't pretend to have all the answers but I think I've figured out this law school thing.

No problem! Price range is from $750 - $1,750. Everyone likes to look at more than what they plan on spending. :)

Search for the zip codes you mentioned:

Got it this week. The letter is dated prior to my paying of second deposit (which I also did this week).

I was only recently admitted and have been wondering how financial aid works there. I sent in my FAFSA to them in February and am wondering when I will receive my financial aid package and how all that would work. I received my scholarship offer from them, but not the actual package itself. Thanks!

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
