Congratulations to everyone accepted!

If any of you find yourself in need of housing, a 1E and 3E are looking for a third person to share a 3br/2.5b house. It is located in a gated community about 10 minutes from the school. Rent is reasonable and all bills are paid. The room will become available in August. Please private message me if you are interested or would like further details.

i just accepted with 26k a year. SMU wasn't flying too high on my radar cuz I thought they would barely accept me, let alone give me any money. This is awesome, I just may be a mustang.

Does anybody have nice apartment complex suggestions that are reasonably priced for a 1BR ($500-650)? Also, what is a typical day like regarding course load and class times for a full time student?

As was mentioned, look in the Village by Lovers and Skillman, it will be close to school and within your price range.

My 1L, classes started around 9:00AM or 10:00AM, depending on the semester and your section. They usually went until early afternoon, with a decent break in-between. You'll go 5 days a week, and take 6 classes each semester. Unless something has changed, both semesters you take Contracts, Torts, Property (bleh), LR&W, and Civ Pro. One class will alternate, meaning one semester you'll have Crim, and another you'll have Con Law I.

Thanks everyone! I think the village may be a little to expensive, there was nothing under 675 that had enough room for two people (I'll be living with my boyfriend). How about ten or fifteen minutes from campus? Any other suggestions?

$700 between you and your boyfriend is $350/person. Is your bf going to live off your student loans?

Any current students have thoughts on the summer background reading list that Crespi and his colleagues came up with? Is this just general info for us, or will it actually come in handy at some point? I'm not going to read them all but would be interested in reading a few:

Professor Greg Crespi created this list with several of his colleagues:
Here are a few possible choices for some relatively "light" summer background reading about law that I and some of my colleagues have come up with for you guys:

Black Lawyers, White Courts by Ken Brown
Simple Justice by Richard Klueger
Buffalo Creek Disaster by Phil Stern
A Civil Action by John Harr
The Death of Common Sense by Phillip Howard
Ultimate Punishment by Scott Thurow
Order Without Law by Robert Ellickson

The following four books are a bit more substantial fare by serious scholars regarding the overall workings of our legal system that would require more concentration on your part:

Simple Rules for a Complex World by Richard Epstein
The Lost Lawyer by Anthony Kronman
A Nation Under Lawyers by Mary Ann Glendon
In the Interests of Justice by Deborah Rhode

A Civil Action is really good. So is the movie.

Other than that, just read what you want for the summer. Game of Thrones or the Repairman Jack series highly recommended.

Does anyone know when we get our 8 digit student ID to log on to our access.smu.edu account?

Quick question: I would need to find a new bank if I moved to Dallas, as I currently bank at a local credit union; any recommendations for good banks or credit unions that would be convenient and in the area? I can obviously look on Google, but am curious to hear your thoughts. Thanks.

Look up shared branching! It saved me in undergrad. See if you CU is a member of it.

Hey everyone, I was looking into booking my ticket for the admitted student day at the end of March and found that SMU has a deal with American Airlines to give students a discount when heading to orientation.

I couldn't find anything saying this could be used for law students, but was curious if anyone knew about it. Also, would it possibly work for the flight for admitted student day?

Thanks for providing the link, I'm checking in as an admitted student, really thinking about coming to SMU, debating it with one other school.

He will be working, but we are fresh out of undergrad and want to save as much money as possible. Considering I'm going to have to take out a large amount of loans, we'd like to stay under 650.

I'm from Wisconsin, and strongly considering since my in-laws live in the DFW area.

From the Admitted Students web page:

"If you would like to RSVP, please contact the Admissions Office at lawadmit@smu.edu or 214-768-2550."

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
