They usually start around 9:00-ish in the mornings, and last until the mid-afternoon. They do a breakfast thing, speeches by various faculty and administration, sit in on a 1L class, lunch, more speeches, tours by student guides, etc. They do it all at the law school, which is pretty much its own separate section of campus. Parking is in the law school garage, which is right next to campus.

If you're from Dallas and pretty set on SMU, you won't learn anything of value, really. You can just come to the school and wander around for a bit and get much the same information, without having to suffer through a speech by the Dean. If you need to decide between a few schools, it's worth going to.

Does anyone here know anything about the Texas Equalization Grant? Does a merit scholarship exempt one from being eligible to receive it?

No, it's a Texas state program. You have to be a resident, but if you are, you should get some money from it.

That group was created for last year's 2015 PT class.

I created a new group for incoming students. Search SMU Dedman School of Law Class of 2015 FT or try the link: http://www.facebook.com/groups/366775810022514/

I have. Technically I'm class of 2016, since I'm PT.

Any other PT out there who have decided to go?

Sorry that the link didn't work, I joined the new group since it seems that one is already up and running. Sent in my deposit for FT yesterday, looking forward to meeting everyone.

Budget?

Uptown for high budgets ($1200+), the Village for lower budgets ($600+).

I live really close to campus (literally right across the street), and don't plan on leaving, but I'm helping two friends from out of town move here right now, so I've spent a lot of time in the last month looking for apartments. Seriously, wealth of knowledge right here, ask away if you have any questions.

For those of you wondering, the lowest priced decent apartments I've found (that I would feel comfortable living in) are called the Cambridge Court apartments off of NW Hwy and 75, so about seven to ten minutes from campus (two or three freeway exits up). They offer a student discount, and I think that the last time I checked a 1/1 that was around 650/700 sf was $550/month + utilities, after the discount. Cheaper than the village. but one exit farther up the freeway. Really close to Northpark, though!

Communicate now with those who not only know what a legal education is, but can offer you worthy advice and commentary as you complete the three most educational, yet challenging years of your law related post graduate life.

How about best apartments or townhomes for 'quiet'? I don't want a bunch of youngsters making a lot of noise in the middle of the night. I'd have to break out my broom and bang on the ceiling.

Depends on your budget. There are a lot of townhomes in the SMU UP/HP area that are a pricey, but it keeps the riff raff out, haha.

What she said. I mean, you can find some nice townhouses that are not studenty at all, but be prepared to spend $1500, $1600 or more a month.

I'd rather not spend more than $1,000 per month. Isn't there a place where most law students live? I figure if I'm surrounded by law students, it will be quiet.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
