Yeah this wait is nuts. I almost wish I had orientation and stuff to distract me from following OCI news. I've never been more scared shitless to start something in my life, but I keep telling myself it is more excitement than fear and that it is normalGreenandgold wrote:I'm sure I'll regret saying this in a few months, but is anybody else getting a little antsy to get started? I've never had a summer that was this long and we've still got more than a month until classes. Ahh, I want to get up to Chicago lol.

^TITCR. All the OCI news, combined with daily scouring of ATL, has left me bereft of shit as well.

Exactly how I feel about it, especially because all the other 1Ls I know are beginning this week. Part of me is just really excited to start the quarter so it can end sooner.

It is beyond comforting to know that there are other people out there with this excited/scared shitless feeling right about now. I keep seeing these pictures and status updates about people studying for hours on end at other schools on their first week, and it's really freaking me out to think about it with nothing else to do.2014 wrote:Yeah this wait is nuts. So looking forward to moving to Chicago soon if only to be busy getting my stuff organized (and meet everyone and drink before the quarter starts and I'm hating myself for wishing this summer would just end already).

Anyways, mmkit, when are you moving to Chicago? If I remember, you'll be in the same apartment building I just moved into

I'm moving in on the 1st, and yeah, I'm in the Del Prado too! How long have you been there? Have you explored the neighborhood at all? My parents and boyfriend are coming to help me move, and I need a decent place to take them to eat if you (or anyone else) has any suggestions.anewaphorist wrote:Anyways, mmkit, when are you moving to Chicago? Cool! Assuming you want to stay in the neighborhood, I would recommend Pizza Capri (interesting, gourmet varieties) or Giordano's (deep dish, stuffed) for pizza. Medici on 57th is a great place for sandwiches (Reubens, Italian beef, etc.), calzones, and specialty fountain drinks, but keep in mind that it is BYOB. Mellow Yellow does good soul food (chicken and waffles, yummy). For Greek, I've heard good things about Hyde Park Gyros. For classic diner fare, try Clarkes (they also have RIDICULOUS desserts). For breakfast, it doesn't get much better than Valois Cafeteria--an old Obama standby and cheap to boot!

I always take visiting people to Medici. They have fantastic brunch if you want to go in the morning/afternoon, really good pizzas, lots of random sandwiches, good milkshakes, and really good appetizers (baked goat cheese, really great guacamole). Definitely my favorite restaurant in the area.

Thanks for all the suggestions!
anewaphorist, are you planning on going to the optional orientation stuff on the 17th? I know it's super early to be thinking about this, but I fail with directions and would love to have a finding the bus/making my way to stuff buddy.

Of course! I'm going to all of it, even the boring HP day (although I might bounce early from that). I have nothing else going on til class starts, so I thought why not.

Need to read them. The show is great! In the spirit of Chicago, I've been on a Saul Bellow bender lately.

So, er, am I the only one who just realized we needed to send in our immunization form on August 17? Whoops. Hopefully sending it soonish doesn't screw anything up...
