I got into UCLA last week, and it's probably the school I am going to end up at , so I decided to make this thread. Anyone else thinking about going here?

Definitely my top choice...would be a FOR SURE if I can just get a little bit more money since I'm turning down a couple full rides to be a Bruin

Negotiate! Make it seem like (which it is) UCLA is your top choice, but the other schools that are giving you full rides are making it awfully hard on you. Hopefully, they'll meet somewhere in the middle. I've heard UCLA is very good with negotiation and that they usually budge. Good luck!

Checking in here! Also considering UCLA along with some T14s mainly because of the serious money they are offering. Anyone had experience negotiating with them in the past? Would they up their offer if you bring up T14 acceptances?

I tried this before and general answer is no unless the T14 is super high or offering you $.

I'm assuming Michigan doesn't count as super high?

i guess UCLA doesn't create an official 2015 fb group. or at least the 2014 group was made by a student ( http://www.facebook.com/groups/154737124589657/ ). one of the EDer's should get on this

i'd do it, but i'm not certain that i'm gonna go here, so i don't want control over something i'm not really invested in yet.

This is probably a little pre-mature, but I'll mention it anyway. I'm currently a 1L and, because I won't be around this summer, I'm getting kicked out of Weyburn. If anyone gets guaranteed housing there and wants a 2L roommate, let me know. I'd like to live here again in the fall.

Just got accepted yesterday. The dean didn't mention an all-expenses paid trip to visit the campus. I'm from the east coast and I can't afford the cost of visiting (I'm still in undergrad and I'm paying for all law school related expenses..plus other stuff). How tacky would it be to ask for a travel stipend?

They have several restrictions on passwords, so make sure you read the directions carefully. I tried typing in a couple passwords before I bothered to read the instructions :)

Current 1L here - will be happy to answer any questions, since I'm in need of a valid excuse to procrastinate :D

what the vibe at UCLA like in regards to getting biglaw? is hiring from there seeming to be picking up? any anecdotes about how many students that WANT biglaw get it?

i'm asking because it's a big concern for me. i'm in at cornell and UCLA and having a tough time decide between the two. i'm a southern california native and like being here.. (still waiting on financial info from both schools, which will also play a big role in my decision making)

current 1L at UCLA too. Working in Seattle this summer. Hard to say about BigLaw. Obviously really hard to get a job as a 1L. BigLaw firms pretty much just hire one first-year each. That is the vibe I am getting at least. As a 1L you will probably be working in 1) public interest or 2) crim/government. Crim and government jobs are harder to get. Judicial Externships are probably slightly easier to get than BigLaw summer jobs, and, some would argue, a better opportunity, but they don't pay anything.

If you are in at Northwestern, you should go there unless you KNOW that you want to practice law in Cali. Otherwise go to Northwestern.

At the same time, UCLA isn't entirely as regional as many would have you believe. I know myself and at least one other person who will be working in Seattle/Olympia. So not undoable. Career services doesn't give you jobs though. Prepare to do the heavy lifting yourself. I think it's like that at most places. Nothing shows up on a silver platter.

man this thread is pretty dead in terms of 0Ls, though i really appreciate the 1Ls in here helping out.

UCLA offered me 20k/yr in need-aid! 8)

that's gonna be super tempting if cornell offers me nothing or is unwilling to match/consider that.

Why did you choose UCLA over other schools (i.e., USC?)?

Thanks for answering questions!

I haven't deposited yet, but I'm basically sure I'm going to UCLA. Anyone else in this boat? I want to start getting to know future classmates!

I attended last week's admitted students reception and I stopped by the public interest office beforehand and chatted with the director, Rochelle Adelman. She said they had 500 applicants, of those 500 half made it to the committee review, for which they are had their final decision meeting on this past Wednesday. I followed up with her on Thursday, but she said that they actually hadn't finished with the decision process, and that Monday seemed more likely. Hope this is helpful!
