The neighborhood around the university is pretty bad. If you head south, it gets much better. Overall, I think the campus is beautiful, but it is a diamond in the rough.PolySuyGuy wrote:I too drove through the student housing around the outside of the University. I saw quite a few people in dumpsters. Even kids collecting cans and bottles. Just watching them made me want to get a Hepatitus vaccine

On the WL as of 4/13. UNLV is my number one choice right now, so I really hope some seats open!

Hello Everyone! Congrats on your decision, I have sent my first deposit and I couldn't be more excited. Anyone from northern Nevada? Looking for roommates?

You & me both! I'm actually retaking the LSAT in June (150 first attempt) to try & improve my chances on the WL. As a LV resident I'm really hoping it opens up so I don't have to relocate my kids & husband for law school. Good luck to you!!azalk wrote:On the WL as of 4/13. From what I hear the list is about 150+- people. They generally take 5-15 people off of the waitlist every year.
So anywhere from a 3-10% chance of getting off?
Good luck all!

Two years ago, they had 322 offers for 145 spots. I have a difficult time believing that UNLV law makes 300 offers for 145 and then takes about 15 people more of the waitlist. The margin of error there is pretty small and thus would have to be pretty concise.
That would be especially difficult this year where there is a lot of waitlist movement. My educated guess would be that the Law School accepts ~200 people and then moves another ~100 people off the waitlist.
The other thing to remember though is that this year, UNLV is offering a lot of scholarship money.
When I went to the admitted student day, I was in complete shock at all the money the Law School was offering in scholarships.
I wasn't seriously considering UNLV until I got their scholarship offers. Yes, multiple.
There is little like graduating from Law School debt free. I imagine myself studying for the bar in Costa Rica after I finish surfing all morning.
And I will get to watch the Blue Man group all the time while in law school

Occasionally, there's a NV resident discount for a ridiculous price ($20 a ticket or something). You'd be stupid NOT to go see them.PolySuyGuy wrote:And I will get to watch the Blue Man group all the time while in law school

The discount on the tickets would essentially pay for law school.

Thanks
If you had a scholarship, deposit was due April 1st. If you didn't it was due April 15th. The second deposit is due June 1st. Obviously people accepted around and after the April 1st deadline have a different deposit deadline. I am guessing May 15th.

Nice. Thank you very much.
Any suggestions for off-campus apartments? From what I understand, living near the school isn't the best area. I believe I read somewhere that one has to live about a 15 minute drive from campus to live in a good neighborhood.
Ideally, I would like to live in a decent area with a minimal drive to campus. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks!

It depends on how much money you want to spend and how far you want to drive.
Housing is dirt cheap if you don't mind the drive. Around the campus is either dumps or luxury living. You pay for each one in accordance. You are essentially located at the end of the strip.
Most of the students I met with live in Henderson and drive 25-35 minutes every day. I thought that was excessive your first year.
