At most schools, J.D. is an abbreviation for Juris Doctor. At others, it is an abbreviation for Doctor of Jurisprudence.

Juris Doctorate is incorrect because it mixes two languages: Latin and English. This is like referring to a Bachelor of Arts as a Bachelor of Artium or as a Baccalaureus of Arts.

Doctor of Law has a nice ring to it, and is not incorrect.

Under the ABA and most states that have addressed the issue, it is not unethical for a J.D. to refer to themselves simply as a "doctor," though I think everyone agrees doing so is at least misleading.

This is a good response, though I would use as analogies Artium Bachelor's and Artium Master's.
