How to Diagram on MS WORD and ONENOTE

Post by stuffedburrito » Tue Jun 10, 2008 8:22 pm

What's the easiest/quickest way to diagram/dissect rules of law on MS WORD and ONENOTE? Does anyone know?

I'm not sure what you mean. Like diagramming Erie or something? In one note the flowchart symbols are aces.

Typically my notes are in outline form.

For example, how do you do this: http://www.top-law-schools.com/uploads/ ... rchart.pdf

What's the easiest way to construct it in such a manner?

Yeah, the flowchart symbols in OneNote rock for that kind of thing.

There may be easier ways but I know you can use the drawing tools in Word to place text boxes anywhere you want them and the drawing tools also let you insert other symbols like arrows and such. There are also symbols that look like flow chart objects, ie boxes with arrows already attached and you can enter text into them. I would imagine that would be the easiest way to do it unless you were to use Power Point and do it as a slide - PP also has similar tools...

Also, how do you make the kind of outlines located in this blog (about half way down)?
I imagine this is how most people make their outlines, correct?

haha...my outlines are not normal.

Take the one note tutorials. It explains a lot. Other than that, I just messed around with the boxes and tools.

Heh, gotcha.
I think I have to wait to get to school to get One Note. I believe the bookstore offers it for some obscenely cheap amount.

Do you think your, let's say excessive, outlines helped you do better than your more printer-ink conservative classmates?

Yeah, I'd say so. I was really organized. This semester I had a lot of family stuff going on and didn't really have the time to do really detailed outlines. My grades reflected that.

Hmmm, interesting.

And does the program allow you to immediately go to the sections you need? I've heard of outlining software allowing you to link to other areas of the outline, is this Onenote? Is this how you used it?

I used OneNote just as you described. You can hyperlink in your outline to cases that you've briefed (you know, if this is the second week of class, lol). After the two work mark, you cut and paste the lexis brief into the tab and hyperlink to that. OneNote is the deal. I liked it so much, I ran VMware fusion on my mac just so I could run OneNote. Tremendous product. I am not a shill.
