Taking tax next year, with tax reform I wonder whether the E&E tax book will still be useful.

I was just going to buy the 6th edition, pretty cheap, but its from 2011(or is the 2014 version worth it for the extra money?).

Did the tax reform bill greatly change the principles taught with the E&Es or is it still worth it to get a good grounding in tax?

I took tax last semester and glanced through the E&E but didn't find it helpful. It can be helpful for some of the concepts but its tricky to avoid learning the wrong material.

None of basic tax concepts taught in an introductory tax course have changed as a result of the new tax law.

If you were taking international tax, you'd need some significant updates, but I doubt there's even updated books available to cover the TCJA international tax updates. Heck, most of the regulations for the TCJA are still being written.

Ask your professor--seriously. Depends on what they cover in class
