ITT (post-pg 4) we discuss OperaSoprano's awesomeness

Post by Leeroy Jenkins » Thu Jan 14, 2010 1:52 pm

Yea no, I'm not below median and there is only a 5% chance I will drop out of lawl school.

Also, I would like to take this opportunity to apologize to everyone for misleading them regarding this delicate matter of grades. At the time, both poor judgment and an undue over-reaction caused me to make this post. It was not my intention to upset anyone and again, I am sorry if you became invested in what was ultimately (thankfully) a non-issue.

That's rough. I don't know what you mean by "relatively small pile of debt" but if you go to a good enough school, maybe median, or slightly below isn't that bad?? (of course ITE TLS is inclined to darken anyone's prospects regardless of rank) I don't know. Maybe go talk to your profs about what you did that was so bad, see if you can't improve? I'd say stick out the spring semester or trimester or w/e you're on. Good luck either way.

What about sticking it out for one more semester? You might really improve your grades.

It would help to know what school you go to. I think below median at PCOL isn't too bad. Its pretty damn cheap, no?

you have a patent registration number, no? with good experience?

your worries about grades are far less worrisome than others. stick it out, improve, and you'll still be OK.

Is this common for people to "give up" after one bad semester? I won't say the "F" word (flame) because you have 13,000 post and wouldn't pull such a stunt so assuming this is completely true, why the hell wouldn't you suck it up, work harder and do better next semester?

I would stick it out a little longer. You have already devoted a significant part of your life and 13,000+ TLS posts to law school.

Spend a semester in Law School then give this advice...

Oh wait, you won't give that advice after a semester in law school...

All 0Ls should get out of this thread.

Lxw, if you're going for IP work your grades aren't going to matter that much. Are you at a top law school? How prestigious was your undergrad, what was your major, and how were your grades? Do you have publications, good work experience, etc.?

Very true.

Law school sucks. I'm in a great place with great people, but it doesn't change that fact. Law school sucks.

It takes a certain kind of person to start law school, enjoy it, and do well. I don't think that you can really know until you've done it.

I agree with some of the others that you should finish one year. You'll have a much better idea of where you stand at that point.

If you've already paid for the second semester, why don't you make appts with your professors to review your exams and get feedback. If you find that your knowledge of law was good, but you did the same thing(s) wrong all the time in writing the exams (e.g. spent too much time restating facts, made conclusory statements w/o putting on paper the analysis going on in your head, etc), then you can dramatically improve your performance.

T1: Keep at it another semester if debt is minimal
T2-4: Drop out

What's your take on practicing law. Any sense if it's really for you?
What are your other career ideas/alternatives?

Little known fact: half of all law students will graduate below the median

If you stay, the 2Ls/3Ls who kicked ass and took names will probably offer to help if you with your strategy if you ask.
