Yes, it is VERY reasonable...I had even thought about it myself. Like I said in an earlier post, it is probably only about five miles away from the school. It is just the traffic of the city that may make it seem like a trek. I actually think the hours we'll be coming to and leaving school will be outside rush hour, so you may not even have to worry about traffic.

There were a few other areas I searched but silver springs had the quickest commute to Howard. Plus the apts in van ness are terribly overpriced.

By the way...where is everyone from???
I'm from Jersey hoping to look into some apts in the DC/MD/VA area (**crossing my fingers for a good & safe place***), but is $800 an unreasonable price to set for apartment shopping??

To the person asking whether you could find housing for 800. Yes, you can. I live across town in DC and pay 825.

For the person asking is $800 reasonable...I think that depends on in what type of neighborhood you want to live. I have lived in NW DC since 2002 and I can tell you now you will find NOTHING for $800/month unless you want to rent out just a room and that may still be pushing it. Now...if you are down with living in "other" parts of the city like across the river or even out in Maryland, then you are more likely to find something in the $800/month range. But again, to think you are going to find your own apartment near the school (<4 miles) for that price is NOT reasonable.
If you have any questions about the different neighborhoods in DC, feel free to PM me.

Re: Howard University Class of 2014
So I'm obviously quite late to this. I'm from NJ, and I am looking for an apartment as close to campus as possible. Ideally within 15 minutes public transit, 30 mins max. I just requested to join the Facebook group, so hopefully I can get some insight there. I would definitely like to have roomates who are from HUSL. Let me know if anyone is looking.
