Hah, I guess I am more of a SMU 2015. Can I transfer to FT after 1L? If so, how?
I am PT and don't have a family or a job! I think I am going to try to get a job though.. just PT to start out with the first year. From what I understand, you can transfer to FT after 1L.. but it has it's disadvantages. I don't feel like typing them all out here.. but you can PM me and I can send you the explanation that someone else sent me.

I'm 90% SMU. I wanna go to an evening dinner though.. Have I missed them all? and when is the seat deposit due again?
First seat deposit is due April 1. I believe it is $250...
There is another ASD for evening students later in April.

We could always just write tls on on name tag and give it away. Although it might be more fun to just use all the various abbreviations and and letters used throughout these forums. Since SMU is a T1 but not T14 and ITE what are the prospects for a NLJ250 could be a question to give it away to every1 in attendance.

sbelt83 I was accepted in the PT program and wont have a job or family either. Did you attend the ASD last night?
It's good to see another PT rider. I think we have enough NJNFPT (No Job No Family Part Timers) for a studying/drinking club.

I go to the ASD on the 23rd. I may be mistaken on that date. The last dinner was too soon for me.

I saw that you are a biker. I'll be psychic if this is true, were you in the military?

I have to say, everyone I come in contact with, who is associated with SMU in some way - be it student, administration, or prospective student - is really down to earth and genuinely nice. I don't know how the school manages to put together such a awesome bunch of people based just off test scores and a crappy essay or two, but they find a way.

SMU seems to have the most cohesive student body out of my current choices. I mean, where else would you find part time students looking to form a study/drinking group in of their March 0E year? :D

Unfortunately, one of the great regrets of my life is that I did not serve in the military...

What kind of bike do you have?

Mine is a 08 Triumph Daytona 675 Special Edition.

I may regret this later, but right now I am looking forward to riding in Dallas and around campus. Especially if gas prices keep going up.

We should definitely start a student organization concerning motorcycles too.

I don't have a bike because the Army frightened me into ever getting one. Every other week someone was being killed or hurt on them. Sad for both them and me because I have always wanted one. You might convince me to get one once class starts though, but I just imagined you and 30 pounds of books, supplies, notes, laptop on your back while on a motorcycle and saw no good come from it. lol. Law school is going to make you ride a cruiser or a trike.

BTW are you going to live on campus, off-campus apartment, or off-campus house?

I have no idea. I have enlisted the aid of some apartment location services online, but I haven't heard back from them yet.

I went to the ASD the other night and from what I gathered Uptown was the place to live and The Villages were to be avoided because of all the undergrads.

I took apart that SURVEY OF HOUSING ALTERNATIVES they gave us in our admissions packet and there are three apartments that met four crucial requirements I had;
1 - Washer/Dryer included
2- Allows a pet
3 - Gated
4 - 1 Bedroom with a Study

And the winners are:
- Jefferson at Lakewood. Has two floor plans that met my requirements and are the cheapest, $960 for The Lakewood floor plan and $900 for the White Rock floor plan.
- The Carlyle. The Spencer floor plan. $1,000-$1,132 per month. More square footage than Jefferson floor plans, 959 sq. ft.. Nothing special jumped out at me from the pictures. I'll have to tour to get a better feel.
- Square Thomas Ravello. Most luxurious and therefore most expensive. The A3 Layout is $1,453 per month. 1,014 sq. ft.. Super nice.

I did not take location in consideration because I just figured that the school already did that for us by putting these apartments in the Survey.

There is definitely a facebook group.

And yeah, all the apartment locations from that packet I looked at were within 10-15 minutes from the law school.

I have lived in the village for a couple of years now and haven't run into many undergrads at all. Most of the people I see around here seem to range from mid-20s to 30s. It might vary by complex, but I've been happy with it.

There are some awesome apartments in uptown, but they generally tend to be pretty pricey. Uptown is also way too trendy for my taste, but there is a lot to do there.

Really you can get by without much. One guy in our section didn't have furniture at all for a semester. Basically a good laptop, comfortable studying clothes, and good whiskey are all you really need.

Does anybody know how difficult it is to get into the on-campus housing or the cheap apartments near campus (e.g. Hillcrest Manor, Daniel Apartments)? I've lived on campus for the past 4 years, and I'm not sure how well I would do with the having to drive/commute to campus.

Just put in my first seat deposit. Anyone going to the second ASW? Y'all going to the first should bring back a report. I'm hoping for casual meet and greet (preferably with school provided booze) vs the Dean speechifying and telling us we are awesome.

The Dean should know I'm already on Team Live Badass

I'm visiting Dallas right now for the ASD tomorrow, and I took some time today to look at a few apartments around the SMU area. Is the general consensus that The Village apartments are fair-to-good choices for students? I was pretty pleased with the floor plans and models I saw today! Anyone else looking at any complexes in the village?

I've been considering the Dakota. I plan on driving over to Dallas in a few weeks to see them in person, and get a better feel for the area in general.

When I visited I looked at these too! Supposedly quite a bit of law students live in them.. I really like the northbridge and Lakes.
