I might as well join up since it looks like I'm more than likely attending GW unless Michigan throws me a hail mary pass.

I've been in discussion with them trying to negotiate scholly money, and it looks like nothing. I think GW is making a push to raise its numbers, from LSN I've seen that they're only giving money to people with either a 3.8+ gpa or a 170+ lsat. Looks like my 169 which would have gotten me big money last cycle is pretty much useless to me this one. :(

I'm probably going here in the fall since I got dinged from GULC. I have a 169 too. Kind of a Twilight Zone moment - I missed 170 by a single question and I didn't get a single guess question (out of like 10) correct. That guess could have been worth tens of thousands of dollars!?

Still waiting to hear from BU. Also have 35k/year at UNH. Even though it's low-ranked, $105k is a lot of money.

still held at northwestern and georgetown but 99% sure i'm going to GWU

honestly though out of all the law schools i've visited GWU has been my favorite. foggy bottom is awesome. even if i got accepted to georgetown a part of me would be sad about moving over to dreary capitol hill instead :I

now let the dreaded housing search begin...ugh

I'm waiting to hear from BU too! Wtf is with us 169s this cycle. It seems as if we don't even exist.

And yes, one question on the lsat cost us 105k + a housing stipend. Wonderful.

seriously, GW's campus location and law facilities are beautiful. the website design is gorg, too. i know aesthetics aren't that important, but it is a big plus!

and haha they are not corgis. one is a border collie mix and the other is an aussie mix. hyper and sweet is how i would descibe them. i am actually planning on living near rock creek park so that i can take the pooches running often enough.

and that really blows for you 169 folk. last year i met a girl with 169, 3.3x who got the 105k deal. but i still love you GW, even if you are retarded about scholarship allocation.

where are the ED admits up in here?

I'm not sure GW is doing a whole lot to boost their numbers. I stumbled in at a 165. My GPA was a solid 3.92 but I'm not sure how much emphasis GW puts on GPA. I have some significant soft factors that may have bolstered my lackluster LSAT. So question: go to GW on no scholarship or go to top 40-30 schools on full ride? Obviously there are a lot of factors to consider like location, program strengths/weaknesses etc. but I'm seriously fighting this thing out in my head and can't come to a resolution.

i actually have only 163 and 3.91 so don't even hope for a merit scholarship. but don't they have need-based grants too?

I think GW's number-boosting theory is to offer 105k scholarships to applicants at/above both 75th percentiles and then accept a lot of splitters who will be excited/honored to get in with their shitty GPA or LSAT. Additionally, they will of course accept lots of people with numbers around their medians, but not expect nearly as many to matriculate since they'll have $$$ offers at peer (or slightly lower ranked, but still respected) schools and/or acceptances at 15-19.

Hopefully a bunch of high LSAT splitters plus a bunch of high GPA splitters = maintain median without spending any money. Spend big $ on 169+/3.88+ candidates (many of whom are ED guaranteed) = raise medians.

yea, i think that's pretty accurate. i think they might lose a lot of LSAT splitters to wustl, though.

Your split is just a little bigger than mine, also got the 106k thanks to being hispanic, though I'm not sure what "URMy" means lol. GW and Vandy have the smallest hispanic populations of the schools I'm really considering, so I'm curious to see what will happen there, though my guess is that I'll be living at the Aston come august :D .

I'm thinking of living here:

Main Street Commons
119 North 16th Street Purcellville, VA 20132

because my wife wants to do her residency in Winchester, VA. What do people think about commuting that distance to GW?

I would probably drive to the VA Fairfax/Vienna GMU metro station and take the metro into Foggy Bottom from there. Probably keep early mornings, leaving around 5, avoiding traffic.

I think it is possible, but it will probably become tiring. There must be some commuters, though! You may miss out a bit on social events and such.

Thanks. On second thought, Middleberg would probably be a better choice than Purcellville.

I am most probably going to attend unless I hear from some T-14 schools (highly unlikely). But I am still trying to reduce my financial burden. Anyone has any luck getting any kind of scholly after the initial offer? The financial aid office re-directs me to admissions.

I had a nice personal note from the dean on my acceptance. I am wondering if that has any currency in reality :-) I am sure others might have got it too so I am not jumping up and down thinking that I am special :|

I think I am moving down to DC in July. But now I am struggling about housing though. Aston sounds to be the 1L law student dorm but I heard it's really expensive and there is a long wait list. Ideally I wanna live very close to the campus and I don't mind having a roommate or two. Anyone looking for a roommate?

I'm not... I went last year, though. It was a really fun day (the best part was the reception at the end, tons of free beer and food while you mingle with current students and professors).

Just live in the Aston if you're able to do so, you won't regret it.

Edit: Sorry, didn't see that there was a corgi coming with you, haha.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
