Re: Harvard Law 2014
There is definitely more inventory for September start, but you would probably need to get somewhere else to stay for orientation or get lucky and find someone who is moving out a week early or so. There are also places for August start too, though.hulahoop wrote:I am thinking about getting an apartment (probably with a roommate) as well. For those looking at private apartments, are you planning to move in at the start of August or September? It looks like orientation is late August, so I am not sure if getting a September lease is feasible. Or am I wrong in thinking most leases can't be pro-rated?
Truthfully, the HRES housing seems to match the market rate, at least for places that are close to the T. Cambridge is just unnecessarily expensive.
I think I will probably end up doing a dorm or trying to get a double studio in 29 Garden Street with a roommate (1K a month with a decent degree of privacy isn't too bad).

Yeah, I talked to some people in Cambidge and HRES seems pretty close to market considering it includes heat, electricty, etc. Cheapest you are going to find a decent place outside of HRES near campus is maybe ~1100 for a 1br. Add in utilities and you are basically at the ~1500-1600 Harvard chargesCalla Lily wrote:There is definitely more inventory for September start, but you would probably need to get somewhere else to stay for orientation or get lucky and find someone who is moving out a week early or so. I'm not actually in yet (JR1 tomorrow), but can anyone tell me the dates of the Admitted Student Weekends? They're not in anywhere online that I can easily find--maybe they fear party crashers?--but I need to give work a TON of advance notice for time off and I want to start thinking about airfare, etc.

Hi all -
I am just wondering if you all are responding to the emails that have been sent out recently. I have gotten several - they are mostly form emails, but some are partially personalized. I just don't know what the protocol is here...
Any feedback is appreciated!

I replied to JR's recent email asking to be put in touch with students who faced a similar decision. He did, and I sent them an e-mail with a list of questions, which they responded to fairly quickly. I also called up the Office of Public Interest Advising after receiving an e-mail from them and spoke to someone for about 15 minutes. Everyone has been very friendly and willing to answer my questions, so I would not hesitate to contact them if you have any questions or concerns.KJWapiti wrote:Hi all -

Just wondering if everyone is planning on checking to waive the right or not waive the right on the dean's certificate. Obviously it should be waived for letters of rec, but why for dean's certificates? The information is just factual and therefore not waiving it wouldn't risk any objectivity. However, the fact that there is the option to waive it implies that it might be a good idea to do so. Is anyone else overthinking this? Also, I have never had anything happen that would jeopardize my dean's certificate, but I'm just being paranoid/want to be able to see it in case there was a mix up and they give me someone else's record.
lol I realize that rant was ridiculous, but would nonetheless appreciate feedback.

Wow, I've gotten SO many emails from current students. I responded to the first couple, but this is getting overwhelming!

Interesting article about the constitutionality of requiring the purchase of health insurance with input from an HLS professor (could be one of our professors!).

I have had pretty useful convos via email and skype with a couple of students and I have a phone appointment with a HLS/HBS professor this weekend. Everyone has been amazingly accessible and blunt so far.oxford_don wrote:I got an email from a student with very similar interests to mine, and I will probably follow up with him.KJWapiti wrote:Hi all -

Time to start hanging around here some more after the call this morning! Is it correct that Harvard does not give a travel stipend for ASW?

No, they do. It is dependent on how far you are traveling. I think the max is $300. It is somewhere on the admitted students website. I cannot check now because I do not have my log in information with me.pride09 wrote:Time to start hanging around here some more after the call this morning! Im in the processing of contacting admissions now to figure out what to do but my ticket was bought more than 60 days before ASW.HLS wrote: Please note that the University imposes a 60 day deadline from the date of purchase to request reimbursement

Re: Harvard Law 2014
I think the quoted text means you can only request reimbursement within 60 days of your purchase, not that you can't have purchased over 60 days before ASW if you want to be reimbursed
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
