Does anyone know if we get any swag after all the deposits are in? I think a friend told me a while back that they sent him a hat, but my memory is fuzzy

I have a non-resident tuition exemption, valued at $48,000. That's $16,000 a year, in addition to the $9,500 a year I'm getting. OOS tuition is $47,532, but with the NRTE I am paying in-state at 32,010. Take off $9,500 for the dean's scholarship and that leaves $22,510 in tuition for the year. Add their estimates for room and board and such and it totals $38,212 for the year in loans.

Is that right? It appears I'm getting about $30,000/semester in loans. On my E-Fan or whatever my residency is listed as Non-TX resident. I'm not sure if that means I'm not a resident of Texas, or I'm not from Texas but getting residency because of the exemption. Could that possibly be the problem?

Plus, even if I was paying OOS wouldn't it still be too much? If I'm getting $9,500 a year in scholarship money, that would put me at ~70,000 in loans and scholarship.

They have COA at $63,234 for OOS, so yeah, that's still weird. I'd say it's worth a phone call to the Financial Aid office.

I'm interested in this, too. I could use a free hat.

I could use just about anything they could potentially send. After accepting my financial aid yesterday, I can tell I'm going to be poor for a while, so I'll need all the free clothing I can get haha.

I was wondering.... I haven't accepted the financial aid yet... Anyone know if/when there's a deadline on that.... I know I'm gonna have to do it, but accepting that amount of debt is terrifying!

If memory serves me correctly, the nice lady in the financial aid office told me I have all the way up until the start of school. But if I'm wrong, this would be a great time for someone to tell me.

Also, I would love a hat.

y'all should post in the TLS C/O 2014 thread. There's only a few of us that have added ourselves to the Texas list. SMU shouldn't beat us at anything... even this.

On a side note, I just declined admission at a T10. Dean Sager, this is me believing in you.

First time I saw him, he cruised up to the podium at ASD with his shot of espresso, ipad and his crazy beard with the vibe of "I'm in my 50s and I'm the coolest motherf**ker in this room!"

I was sitting in the back, so I couldn't really tell what he was holding. It looked like a shot glass, but then I realized it was espresso. If he had walked up to the podium and downed a tequila shot, I would have put my seat deposit down that day!

Too funny--I think he's addicted to those espresso shots. I was lucky enough to meet with him when I visited (couldn't make it to ASD) and he offered me some espresso from the machine in his office. I didn't take him up on it, but now I wish I had!

Got my swag bag - aforementioned chocolate (delicious!), car sticker, and USB drive.

I'm pretty happy with it.

Haha I guess the swag talk wasn't in this thread. I get confused with both the Texas threads, they should be consolidated.

It's really good, "Cinnamon-Chili Dark Chocolate" in the shape of a bat.

It was originally in this thread, I quoted it into the other thread. Thanks.

I was so excited about my car sticker, I went out in the middle of the night (I get home from work late) in my pajamas to put it on my car.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
