http://www.transportation.ucla.edu - You'll be able to apply on June 1. While parking isn't technically guaranteed for graduate students, I don't know of any law student who commutes (even from only a couple miles away) who was denied a permit. Even several law students who don't commute got permits - but I don't recommend that because it costs somewhere in the neighborhood of $600 for the year.

Also, I'm looking forward to seeing all of you next year! If anyone has any questions for a current UCLA student, feel free to contact me.

When I applied for housing, I got my offer within a couple days... maybe even the next day... (but I had guaranteed housing? so maybe that makes a difference? I don't know.)

Looking forward to meeting all of my fellow classmates. Anyone headed to the June reception?

Also, can't quite decide whether to live on-campus in Weyburn, or to find a "real" place this summer before schools starts. I'm coming from San Francisco, so it's feasible for me to do so. I've also grown accustomed to having a decent place since I've worked for the past two years in the city (though I don't know if that will be that easy). Does anyone know much about the culture at Weyburn? Does it feel like dorms? haha

Is there actual, affordable housing in Westwood that isn't university run? Everyone talks about living in Brentwood or further...

I'm in the same boat and I actually just declined my Weyburn offer to save some money. I'll be moving up for the summer from SF to get to know LA too. Weyburn sounds like a bad dea to me. $1,100 a month PER PERSON for a two room place with a rando roommate sounds horrible. Plus you live with all grad students so you never get away from the UCLA bubble, even at home. I can live with my gf and split the rent and get a way nicer place with our $$ combined, and even if my gf weren't in LA, you can find nice studios for sub 1k on craigslist.

Just to quickly rebut what the last person said... I think Weyburn is wrong for some people, but right for others. It's definitely not perfect, but it's still a good option. First of all, you don't necessarily have a random roommate. I met my future roommate (in Weyburn) at Cornell's ASW, and I bet there are a lot of people who made similar arrangements at UCLA or other ASW's. Second, I think living with other grad students for the first year is smart. They are on the same schedule that you are, and they understand the same level of pressure and will be under similar deadlines. Also, it's social. It's supposed to be fun... and why not have fun? And lastly, I wouldn't be incredibly worried about the Westwood bubble for two reasons. 1. if you are already familiar with LA and have friends here, then you are going to get out of the bubble anyway (going out with other friends and such) or 2. if you are new to UCLA and Los Angeles, living in Westwood for one year does not feel like being trapped bubble. I did undergrad at ucla and didn't have a car while i was there. Most of my friends didn't either. And that was for four years. I don't think one year in Westwood, especially if it's all new and fresh to you, is going to feel that limiting.

To each his own I suppose. For me its more of a money issue than anything. The way I see it, you pay a premium to live close to campus and with other grad students, which are two things I'm not that interested in.

There is a different group called "UCLA Law Class of 2014." Not infested with undergrads; no worries.

Got in off the waitlist last week. So excited! I hope our class doesn't consist of a bunch of losers! Lol jk. I live a few blocks away on the Wilshire Corridor, so I won't be housing in Weyburn or anything. Look forward to meeting you all! :D

Checking in as well - thrilled to be headed back to UCLA!

I submitted an app for Weyburn last week - any thoughts on turnaround time, whether they are entirely booked, etc.?

Anyone know anything about the mentor program? I can't figure out if its mainly for foreign students or if it would be worthwhile to sign up for it.
