Class rank needed to transfer down?

Post by Kiwilaw » Fri Mar 22, 2019 3:05 pm

Hello,

There's not much information out there on the difficulty of transferring down in law schools (I guess because it doesn't happen very frequently).

Texas resident here. If I attend NYU Law, would I be able to transfer back to University of Texas very easily? What if I'm below median?

I'm not sure anyone will really have any idea, but I thought it would be worth asking at least!

I will assume you are transferring for personal reasons and not under the impression that UT > NYU.

Is your reason for transfer super pressing? Can you just do the 3L "visiting student" thing? That would get you back in Texas but still with an NYU degree.

Alternatively you could do a 2L semester "abroad" at UT maybe? If you only need to be back for a few months.

Also, UT has a hard bar on transferring in after 1L unless they changed it in the last 12 months.

best of luck.

Consider taking a semester off, then doing two in a row, then taking another semester off. NYU is portable enough to practice in Texas.

And a NYU J.D. affords far more flexibility than a UT J.D. Remember, the median UT grad does not land BigLaw.
