Got the call today around 6 pm! Timeline is: UR1 7/5, UR2 7/16, UR3 7/17. Stats are top 10% at a school ranked 40-60 with strong softs.

Anyone that has accepted an offer of admission: what’s the deal with oci? I read on another thread that schedules have come out already.

If I get in I'm turning down since I just accepted at Columbia, but someone that went to the same t20 school as I did and was outside the top 1/3 got in yesterday. Maybe softs matter more than we think for transfers, I'm top 16% and I haven't heard been heard a decision as of yet.

I've looked at the packet they sent, and I've talked with several transfers. Apparently, almost all the firms reserve spaces for the transfer class. We get our own mini replication of EIW week. The transfers that I've talked to have been wildly enthusiastic about the process. They say that if you want a big firm job, you're essentially guaranteed one.

Be prepared for two drawbacks (based on what I've been told):

1) The transfer write-on competition conflicts with callbacks. I'm not doing write-on for that reason. Best to do EIW with everything you've got, rather than half-ass the writing competition *and* callbacks.

2) Some--but very few-- big name firms are not interested in transfers. These include WLRK and S&C. The transfer I spoke to said Cravath was on that list, but they accepted quite a few transfers this past cycle.

Hope it helps. I'd recommend doing some research/verifying with your own sources.

Can I ask what those strong softs are? Work experiences, rec letter...etc.
Did you submit any additional documents not required?

Thanks :)

Thanks! I actually haven't been checking my status checker because I had almost given up hope. The call came as a complete surprise today.

Transfer orientation is 8/6 according to Admissions Office rep, and they intend to render all decisions before then. Good luck!

Orientation is 8/2...EIW starts 8/6. Just FYI.

I see. The person I spoke to didn't know at first and had to go check, so I am not altogether surprised her information was incorrect. Thanks for clearing that up.

Re the latter (and in general for EIW), a good rule of thumb is to consider how your application would have been treated if coming from your old school. Of course the benefit of transferring is access to NYU’s EIW, which certainly helps to get people in front of a wider array of firms & this certainly increases odds of callbacks, but your old transcript will be judged by your old school’s standards, etc. For example, most of the Cravath people transferred from other T14s.
