Does anyone know what the typical gpa/clank rank necessary to have a good shot at being accepted is? I currently have a 3.73, ranked about number 12 out of 100 at a T1(40-50).

Top 5% if at T2/T1
Top 10% if at T20

Is it really top 5% at a T1? Given the large transfer class size, I thought top 10ish % would be good enough to have a good shot. Is that not the case?

As a general guideline, I think those numbers are correct. There's some wiggle room and you can have a shot if you're a little lower, but to have a good shot, top 15/10/5 for T14/T20/T1 seems about right.

Large transfer class but also tons of people applying.

I gotcha. Hopefully I don't drop, or at least not much, after this semester lol.

Transferring is admittedly not as much of a numbers game as it is for 1L admissions, but are you sure people who go from top 30% to Columbia or Chicago (or wtv examples you're thinking of) aren't more the exception than the rule?

Seems like a 170/3.7 who gets into Harvard. Yeah, it happens, but that shouldn't make 0Ls with those numbers think they have a good shot. Successful transfer candidates are also more likely to talk about their cycles than people who got dinged.

That said, you could talk me into top 10-15 having a good chance. I'm just wary of these anecdotes floating around where you can be a little above median and get T6 because X did it. Maybe WUSTL is a special case in the T20 though.

To what i've read it seems that transferring is just as much, if not more of a numbers game than 1L admissions

1L gpa (read: class ranking) and school rank is all that matters (and i'm sure, like always, URM plays a role). It's a numbers game, and yes, more so than for 0L admissions. .

Nah, you pretty much know where you'll get in and where you'll get dinged based on your numbers for 1L admissions.

The transfer process is a little more of a black box. You need to meet a certain threshold for transfer admissions (I think you need to have a good profile for OCI), but after that, it becomes a little more holistic. I know people who were around top 7 or 8% at a T14 who got into YLS, but I also know people inside the top 5% who were dinged at HLS. There are also plenty of applicants who get into NYU but not Columbia or get into Columbia but not NYU. CLS and NYU accept a bunch of people in the top 10-15% range from T14s, though there's a pretty vocal WUSTL contingent on here claiming top 30% gets T6 and median gets NU/Michigan.

Most info we have is anecdotal, but based on what I know, I do think Columbia has a preference for people who finish really high in their class at lower schools (top 5% a T2/T1, as Nebby is saying) while NYU will dig deeper (top 20-30%) into the class at T14s than CLS will.

Sure, but I'm saying you can't go from X class rank to Y/Z schools the same way you can by inputting your data on LSN for 0L admissions. I agree that if you're below a certain threshold, then you'll get dinged.

I think a grand total of three people transferred from UT and Vandy last year. A half dozen of UCLA folks go to berk but not much elsewhere. Barely anyone leaves USC. Like a dozen leave WUSTL. I doubt even a quarter of this group of 30 people reports their stats here or on the yahoo group. And I'm sure a small chunk of this group is not "transferring up" for whatever reason.

We have effectively no meaningful data for T20 transfers. The anecdotes are so meaningful here because the anecdotes are pretty much all that happened.

Do you know the dates for Columbia Fall OCI? I understand that the EIP starts on August 6, but cannot seem to find dates for OCI. I am on the west coast, so if I get in, I do need some time to travel/move.

OCI is during the school year. EIP is Biglaw hiring.

Thanks - do you know how to find a list of firms/office locations that are participating in EIP and OCI? I actually don't want employment in NY but I *think* the big firm west coast offices would still recruit at Columbia.

Under Question 7.2 it asks "are you currently enrolled at a law school?" and then it has you attach an addendum if you respond "yes". What is this about?

So where do Columbia/NYU students live? Specifically married students/students not rooming with someone? Seems like living in Manhattan is unrealistically expensive with no/little income.

Apparently student housing is pretty big at both. And morningside heights is cheap for manhattan.
