Congrats to all the new transfers! We're so happy to have you and have eagerly awaited your acceptances.

To clear up a few things, all of us transfers have amazing Big Law summer jobs: Wachtell, W&C, S&C, Boies, DPW, Quinn, etc. None of us had trouble finding jobs at all.

There were 17 acceptances last year and 13 transfers came. I believe we were all called on the same day.

PM me if you want to chat. Being a transfer at YLS is amazing; we have a ton of friends, near limitless resources, and unbeatable opportunities. It has been so much better than I could have imagined.

Depends on your price range, whether you want roommates, have a family, etc. Also whether you want the downtown (close to campus) environment or to live in the suburbs (~10-15 min away).

question: would you have been strong candidates for acceptance if you would have applied as 0Ls? e.g. 3.9 undergrad GPA / 175+ LSAT?

Eh, I would have had a chance, but I would not have felt confident in it. I had an undergrad GPA of 3.96 (3.95 at the time I was applying) and an LSAT score of 169. As far as getting into Yale goes, transferring in after a year was probably a better choice.

Eh, I would have had a chance, but I would not have felt confident in it. I had an undergrad GPA of 3.96 (3.95 at the time I was applying) and an LSAT score of 169. As far as getting into Yale goes, transferring in after a year was probably a better choice.

This is highly misleading. Presumably you had to do very well in law school to transfer. There was a 90%+ chance you would not have any shot at getting into Yale via transfer when you started 1L - unless you are arguing you knew ex ante you'd be more capable than nearly all your peers, which isn't possible. No one has a "strong" shot at admission to Yale as an 0L, but for future readers if you're at 3.95/169 and you want yale, your chances are much greater retaking for 173+ and applying then for first year admission than rolling the proverbial dice on being at the top of your 1L class at another school.

I'm not trying to diminish your accomplishment being top of the class - actually, quite the opposite.

Well they are already put on alert because you had to have dean's certs and transcripts sent. Just email your registrar wherever you end up. I finished that up today.

Oh no, I agree. I understand what you're saying and think you're 100% spot-on--I guess what I meant to say is that retrospectively it was probably a better idea for me to go somewhere else first and then transfer in than to apply to YLS the first time around and not attempt to transfer in if/when I was rejected.
