It seems like Columbia is a huge reach for you. Columbia's median LSAT is 172 and median undergrad GPA is over 3.6. I know it takes more transfers than some top schools and your LSAT score and undergrad GPA are less relevant in the transfer context. But considering your LSAT score and undergrad GPA, your only shot at Columbia would come from truly stellar first year law school performance. I understand CUNY has a pretty harsh first year curve, so your grades are quite respectable. But even on a C+ curve, a 3.65 is likely excellent but not amazing very top of the class performance at CUNY. Maybe the curve is harsher there than I am guessing. If a 3.65 places you in the top 5 students at CUNY (not top five percent--top 5) and you have a couple of law school professors who will rave about you in recommendations, then you might have a shot. When you say you feel decent about your recommendations, do you think they are "okay" or have the professors told you directly that you are one of the top students they have had in many years at CUNY? I think you really need the latter.

Does anything else make you stand out? Are you an URM? Do you come from a particularly poor or disadvantaged background? Did you apply to Columbia Law in your initial cycle? How respected is your undergrad?

All due respect, you really don't have a shot.

yeah... I don't think it's going to work out. kind of ridiculous that a T4 doesn't rank.

Bottom Line. If you want to go to Columbia, it is worth a shot--but a very long shot. So I would apply elsewhere too if you really want to transfer.

Can big law associates even afford to buy a condo in Manhatttan?

I really have no attachment to NYC, I'd never even been there before this spring. I'll probably move away after law school, the western U.S. is more my style.
