Well, you can tell your dad that a student was found dead in one of the Evanston libraries a month ago. You don't have to mention that a student was robbed at gun point on the Chicago campus though (he was there at midnight on a Saturday night).

congrats! i'm actually in the midst of the search right now, too, and it seems like a lot of people are, so don't feel too bad

also, i'm heading out to chicago this weekend to apartment search. does anyone know anything about Delaware Place? Found it in this ad: --LinkRemoved-- and I'm curious as to why it's cheaper than everything else if it's right in Streeterville...

Yup, there are 2 buses that go basically straight from the west loop to a few blocks from campus, and a third that's only a little farther. Plus there's always the 8 to the 66. I'm set.

Nice, now just get a bus tracker app and you're all set.

If anyone is interested in living a little farther from school, let me know. Yesterday I looked at an amazing place by the Chicago blue line that I almost took, and as of now it's still available. The Chicago Ave bus is really frequent during the day and runs 24 hrs.

Did anyone else get the email about the Summer Law Preparatory Program? I'm wondering if any current students have any experience with it and could advise on whether it's worth signing up.

I'm torn. On one hand I feel like I should...but this means changing my work and moving date and everything...blah.

I emailed some current students just to see what they thought and the consensus is that its helpful even if it just gets you in the swing of things. And usually people say not to do prep courses because its a waste of money, but this is free. I think the program has changed a bit in the past 2 years so the itinerary this year may be different from the last.

I did it last year. I would recommend it. The one week you think you might be losing from your summer vacation fun will feel like an ant once you finish your first semester; it's not a lot of time lost in the scheme of things, and there is definite upside. For instance, intro sessions on the U.S. court system and legal system (constitution, statutes, admin, etc), common law 101, a one-day torts class followed by outlining and a mini-law school exam, sessions with rising 2Ls/profs/admin....and you get a nice dinner with the sponsoring firm; it was near the top of the sears tower last year (not sure who's sponsoring now). Obviously, this isn't necessarily the itinerary for this year but it gives you a some idea. Lastly, it is a good way to meet some people early on in a relaxed, low-key kinda way, as opposed to the first day when there are 250 of you there and everyone is already shopping for books and all stressed out.
