I haven't heard anything. The career services website says that student review of the various OCI firms will begin on June 14.

Having a female German shepherd is proving to be a big PITA when it comes to apartment searching
Edit: Found four places that will work. If any of y'all have pets let me know!

Can someone tell me if the metrorail runs through any of these neighborhoods, and if so where does it go?Josh the Goat wrote:Here's the map of the various neighborhoods
I'm trying to nail down where to live, and so far google hasn't been too helpful figuring where the metrorail runs in relation to neighborhoods.

Here's a basic mockup of the metrorail, it's the purple bar going through the middle.madmartigan wrote:Can someone tell me if the metrorail runs through any of these neighborhoods, and if so where does it go?
It starts south of 610, goes through the med center, museum district, midtown, downtown, and ends at the UH-Downtown branch. It mostly runs along Fannin and Main street.
So in relation to UH Main campus, it's not really of any use unless you plan on transferring to a bus somewhere, but that will be a huge time commitment and quite a hassle.
If you want to use it just to get around the other parts of houston, then it might be worth it, but most people just use it for work commuting that I've seen.
The full schedule and map is at http://www.ridemetro.org/SchedulesMaps/RailSched.aspx

I found that link, but I couldn't make sense out of it in relation to the neighborhoods. I'm looking at Montrose, Upper Kirby, and Midtown. I was trying to figure out if the train went through those neighborhoods. I.e.... if I lived in Montrose, would it be easy to hop on the train and go to midtown. I guess I'd have to live in Midtown to take advantage of the rail tho.

Re: U of Houston Class of 2013
Yeah, that's part of the problem with the metro line. There were plans to branch off and build a second line all the way down richmond through montrose all the way to the greenway plaza area, which would be awesome, but so many people have protested that it's been delayed or maybe even canceled.
It would screw over a lot of businesses in the 1-2 years it would take to build the rail in front of their shops, but if it were to be built, Houston would actually have a more viable mass transit system for long term mobility.

Seems like I'm the only one posting in here Anyway, I think I'll be living at La Maision in the Kirby/River Oaks area. It's only about 10 mins from school.

Pretty sure that I'll be in the part-time class in the fall, unless I get off the full-time waitlist.

There is a stupid cheap apartment in my building that would be great for school. I live in Montrose. Hit me up for details.
I'd rather it be a U of H law student than some random obnoxious kid, especially since it shares a landing with my place.

I'm having a significant amount of trouble in my apartment search. Trying to live with a roommate, but the whole living 1000 miles away thing makes it hard to visit and check out prospective places.
Anyone have insight?

Most profs didn't have a problem with it. There's probably a few though that will not allow it. Just ask on the first day.FB567 wrote:Do most profs let us record the lectures?

Re: U of Houston Class of 2013
For part-timers like me, it's easy.. Bray for Property and Ragazzo for Procedure (only one offering for these in the evening). The LRW is up in the air as there are up to 3 classes. If you go to the school bookstore, you can try and find your book by professor if they've listed them even if they're not in stock yet.Should recieve email from Student Services in late July with orientation, schedule, books, etc.
The email is coming soon -- Yay!
I'm reading "Getting to Maybe" and listening to Aspen Audio CDs for Property to get overview. Considering the LEEWS audio/workbook combo but want to go through what I've got already. Don't want to get overwhelmed yet as only a few days of "freedom" remaining.
See you at orientation!

On to the important things.
Golf.
Where do we play? Rates? Anything remotely nice for a decent price?
Who wants to play a round in the week leading up to orientation?
