I'm currently living out of the country and wont be back till July. Will I be screwed apartment-wise if I don't get to Atlanta and check out places before then?

Seriously, that is kind of a big deal. Everyone keeps telling me that I should consider the Atlanta economy, relative to the rest of the country, a big draw.

that huffpost article spells out my hunch about atlanta relative to the rest of the country (northeast and midwest in particular). if things keep up in this way, i think emory could make a move in rankings (for what they're worth). ND, WUSTL, UIUC, they rely on local markets at least as much as Emory does. It will be interesting.

No. I was in the same situation last year and found a pretty good place in August. There'll probably be a good amount of options still available but you'll miss many of those move-in specials that students get in June or so.

I have had some good success with the Emory off-campus housing site. https://housing.emory.edu/off-campus/home.cfm

There are some cool options that put you significantly closer to campus than Gables/Post/Campus Crossing.

Not in your entering class (applying this fall) but currently live in Atlanta and have for 10 years. Feel free to PM me if you have any housing/neighborhood/Atlanta in general questions.

Yeah - we're gonna need to work on that.

There are a few people selling the whole package of 1L books on facebook. Should I buy used books or is there some benefit to buying new books?

Also - are law books usually available on half.com or other sites like this?

I've read that new/clean books are what you're gonna want. You're going to be making your own marks in them, underlining/highlighting things that are important to you, etc.

If you can get used books that aren't marked up, awesome. But I'd wanna check 'em out first.

If money is seriously an issue though, its not like you can't make it work either way!

Hey you guys who already signed leases at Campus Crossings---when does your lease start? August 1st or around the 15th or so? Thanks!

15th for me, I think you could have requested an earlier move-in date though?

Does anyone know if there's a complex somewhere that does a month by month lease off the bat?

I'm thinking of getting the new iPhone this summer but I was curious to know more about AT&T's coverage in Atlanta. I know that everyone bashes AT&T in NYC and SF, but I've had no problem with it in my hometown.

Does anyone know how it is in ATL?

For what it's worth I had no coverage problems on AT&T while I visited for ASW. Usually my friends with iPhones have better reception than me in the same areas

You can do month to month at most of the complexes (Gables Sheridan and Post Briarcliff I know for sure), it just skyrockets the rent. For a one bedroom at Gables it's something like 850/mo for the floorplan I'm looking at for a 12 month lease and almost 1200/mo for month to month.

iPhone -- worked well on campus. Wait till June.

Month to month -- were I you, I'd wait a little longer and hope that something will be available. If there's no way to sign on for Post/Gables as a month to month and then convert it into a fixed lease, I wouldn't do it. A $350/month indecision premium seems rather noisome.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
