I'm really interested in going here. However, I will probably have to pay sticker.

I appreciate it, but I'm not expecting any merit aid with my numbers.Veritas wrote:+1mizzoutigers88 wrote:I'm really interested in going here. However, I will probably have to pay sticker.

Re: GW Class of 2013
I received an email back this morning.
It pretty much stated that if you didn't receive merit aid in your acceptance packet then you should plan your financial aid without the expectation of receiving any merit aid. She did say that they may make some additional awards as the people who have money decline, etc...She went on to discuss need-based aid and loans. I think the max you can receive in need-based is $15,000. So, even maxing that leaves you with a hefty price tag.
Kind of disappointing.

Re: GW Class of 2013
I'm not surprised. I think this requires some reading between the lines: they can't say "yes, there's plenty of money floating around and all of your packages are forthcoming". Additionally, many many of the people who receive large amounts (like the $120,000 deal) are 170-171s who will likely take a gtown or a cornell later in the cycle. That leaves their 120,000 to be distributed among two or three people at 30-90 K each.
So, based on conjecture and lsn profiles, i'm pretty sure at least some people will receive at least some merit aid closer to the spring.
thanks for asking, veritas!!

I agree that once people with full-ride offers decline, there will be some money to spread around. I don't want to pay sticker, but for me I think its either GW or no law school (Cardozo and Fordham seem really unappealing to me right now for some reason) and so I think its GW.

Just a personal opinion, but if you want to end up in DC then choosing Gtown at sticker over GW with a 6-figure scholarship is crazy. DC employment opportunities between the two schools are not that different. Outside of DC it might be a different story, but even then I would probably take the money.umichgrad wrote:I'm not surprised. agreed, but you're not everybody, and i can tell you most TLS-ers would take the T-14. Plus some of the ones with $$$ at GW probably have a little at GULC too. I'm just suggesting that later in the cycle some of the people with pretty big offers from GW will end up at a higher ranked school, thus leaving some for the rest of us.

I got my acceptance letter and scholly yesterday, and I was offered the first-year housing deal. Only problem is, I'm married, so I wouldn't be taking that. I wonder if they would offer me something else instead?

Does anyone know who I'd even speak to about the possibility of merit aid?

Re: GW Class of 2013
So for everyone who has heard, when was your application complete?
Mine was complete on January 20th. I was complete at DePaul and Vandy that same day, and letters are on their way to my house right now. Should I expect to wait a lot longer for GW?

Re: GW Class of 2013
I've pretty much decided that the only thing that would make me not attend GW is an unlikely acceptance from Berkeley, and even then, it would be a tough choice.
So who's gonna be at GW? We should all get to know each other or something.

Barring an acceptance off a waitlist or two, I'll be there!
