Are those of you who struck out complaining as 1Ls? It is not uncommon to strike out at OCI for 1L. 20 interviews for a 1L SA position is damn good.

latham ny ding. didn't expect it anyway but it feels like now is when a lot of firms tie up loose ends.
Question - if I haven't heard from a firm either way, is that a ghost or a wl? and is it ok to follow up and express interest etc?

For those concerned about striking out, see link above showing that about half of NU students found their positions through OCI in 2017. While many others pursued non-biglaw careers or may have participated in pre-OCI recruiting, a non-negligible chunk of students found their biglaw jobs outside of OCI.
While striking out makes life more difficult, I'd really encourage those for whom OCI did not work out to keep reaching out to employers.
This year seems to have been tough and I suspect that firms may be hiring smaller classes in light of an expected market slow-down.

To add, this year is a big law school class, I believe throughout the T14, which may contribute to the struggles in other schools such as GULC.
Add in the growth of pre OCI in NY, which was difficult to be a part of for those who spent the summer elsewhere (or, for whatever reason, didn't pre OCI - it's in the past now).

Re: Northwestern 2019 OCI
Hey y'all, figured I'd drop in on this. went into OCI with 3.29 or something. Had 20 screeners, got a single callback that dinged me within 12 hours.Anonymous User wrote:Oh I'm not dropping out, I want to be a lawyer. This just blows.Anonymous User wrote:Not dropping out but another person in a similar situation.Anonymous User wrote:Cheers mate, glad I'm not the only oneAnonymous User wrote:This has been the most frustrating and demoralizing experience in my entire life. I did my research, and from all the available information I could find, thought that if I go to a T13, get good grades, network, buy an interviewing wardrobe, and practice interviewing, that I would be able to get a job. I have done all those things, and I'm struggling. And from the above comments, it's not just me. 20+ screeners and only one CB. We were sold a bill of goods. I see zero benefit to the brand name of a good school or to OCI. And I worked hard to get here, worked hard to get my grades.
If my single cb turns into a job, I'll be listed as a success story in the employment stats. If it doesn't, I'll probably drop out. I can't justify two more years of my life if this was mistake. If any prospective students read this thread, listen to everyone telling you not to go to law school.
One more piece of TLS advice I should've taken - ignore every single thing career services says. I ignored half of it and if I get a job out of this that'll be the reason why.
I felt the exact same way this time last year. I did the whole retake -> t13 thing relentlessly and felt absolutely boned by career services/OCI in general. Don't stop! It is insanely discouraging but you gotta keep moving. I didn't get an offer until April, it was miserable for sure but still managed to workout in the end. Network relentlessly with everyone. get coffee or call every person that has even set foot inside of NU law. leverage your professors and any connections that they might. most important part is just not giving up no matter how badly you want to. Hit up regional markets, make up any tie to there that you possibly can.
Keep hammering friends, I'll be around campus if anyone wants to meet up and chat. just tag me or something and I'll PM you.
