In House position offer process - did I get passed over already?

Post by Anonymous User » Fri May 17, 2019 10:10 pm

I interviewed at a pretty big company last week. On Monday HR called and said the team wanted to make me an offer, and asked for my salary expectation. I gave them a number, and they said it’s prob too high but will run it through the chain. On Wednesday I followed up, and HR said they are still working on the offer and it might be another couple of days before they get back to me. Friday came and went and I haven’t heard anything (I didn’t follow up again even though I really wanted to). Did I get passed on for the position because I asked too high of a salary? I feel like they should give me a counter offer or at least let me know if they are not interested anymore right? Is it normal for HR to take so long to get an offer out?

Unless they work at the company, I'm not sure anyone here could help you. Every company will be unique in this regard. Indeed, I wouldn't even expect to similarly situated candidates experiencing this at different times to have the same outcome.

If you were their standout candidate, the one they really want to hire, they might be trying to get management approval (or deciding which legal assistant they have to fire).

If there were other strong candidates, they might have made an offer to another candidate. Or, if there after no other good candidates, but they can't afford you, they might be reopening applications.

No, they are likely legitimately running through the channels. If this requires an equity grant some companies want to run it through the comp committee, but either way, it can take a while.

No I went through a similar thing. It takes time to go through the red tape, especially at a big company like you described. The offer letter is on the way
