V50, corporate 1st year. 560 billable hours so far. Idk why I’m working so hard for a firm that isn’t even that well ranked when my friends at similarly ranked firms aren’t working half as hard.

V25 corporate associate in non-NY major market. 380 YTD. I thought I was low, it’s encouraging to see others in similar situations.

V50 corporate first year in NYC. 754 since starting in September, 310 for the year so far.
Definitely won't make hours at this rate. Do first years generally always make hours? I'll be staffed on enough matters but then the very busy days aren't enough to make up for the slow days, and even when busy I feel like so much time is wasted waiting to hear back on assignments from people above me or just sitting around waiting to be assigned something else on the deals I'm staffed on. Hours are only consistent when I'm doing diligence. So annoying.

I hope everyone keeps in mind these threads should be way more about self-loathing and bitterness than about flexing. Higher hours are bad.
Anyway, for 2019: approx 500.

You’re probably right, and tax is maybe more consistent, but you said it’s a lifestyle practice while posting the 2nd or 3rd highest billable hours for 2019 in the thread. Tax anon here. I was being sarcastic on the lifestyle front. To be fair, however, I am I think a bit of an anomaly in my group. I believe our group yearly average per person 1750-1900. It's a marathon, not a sprint and I may have started at too fast a pace.

Another first year tax associate here. I think the whole "tax is a lifestyle group" thing gets overblown on this forum. The partners seem to have a relatively easier lifestyle (with the caveat that it's not hard to have an easier lifestyle than 99% of biglaw partners), but the associates in my group work like dogs (like 200-250/mo on average). I'm thinking it might not be for me, tbh.Anonymous User wrote: Tax anon here. I was being sarcastic on the lifestyle front. To be fair, however, I am I think a bit of an anomaly in my group. Re: Biglaw Hours Check Class of 2018
Yet another tax associate here, can confirm that tax has it materially worse than the other practice groups at my firm. Definitely not a lifestyle group--I'm not sure where that myth came from, to be perfectly honest.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
