How many lateral moves is too many?

Post by Anonymous User » Tue Jan 15, 2019 2:01 pm

After law school, I went to a V10 firm in NYC and joined a specialist M&A group (e.g., benefits, labor, IP). After a year, I was discouraged by the experience and wanted to switch to general PE/M&A. Eventually I made the move to another V10 and have been with that firm's PE/M&A group for about two years now. It isn't exactly a lifestyle firm, and I'm growing frustrated by the lack of associate development/training. Thinking of lateraling to another firm, which would be my 3rd. Is this a huge red flag, to be lateraling yet again, or am I overthinking this?

You’re overthinking it. 2 years at your current v10 is longer than most people last. And you have a legitimate reason for your first lateral
