Switching Practice Groups

Post by Anonymous User » Sun Dec 16, 2018 4:31 pm

First year at V50 firm in restructuring group and considering switching into banking/finance. How does this work exactly? Also, how would this work if I’m considering making a lateral move into the new practice group. Basically, I’m just asking for general advice here.

General advice: ask people at your firm who you can trust and knows how its done.

Also, why do you want to switch to banking/finance?

Not uncommon to see this type of switch. You may be asked to take a class year hit.

Not OP. If you're a 3L who's become really interested in a certain practice area and you have an offer but want to switch to another firm better-known for that practice, should you apply during spring of 3L with cover letters stating that particular interest, or should you try to lateral after a year?
