Too late in the year to lateral?

Post by Anonymous User » Thu Oct 18, 2018 4:24 pm

I’ve heard that at a certain point, it’s too late in the year to lateral because firms aren’t looking, but that opportunities will increase once people take their bonuses and leave. Is that actually true? Thinking of lateraling.

No. There is just more movement after bonuses hit. Firm's hire when they have a need. Some times you can negotiate a start date after you receive your bonus. Sometimes you can use forgoing a bonus to get a signing bonus.

firms that have an immediate need are willing to look “lower” than they normally would at this time because a lot of associates are waiting for bonuses.
