Follow up after callback

Post by Anonymous User » Thu Oct 18, 2018 12:43 pm

I did a callback for SA on Monday with a specific practice group in biglaw and haven't heard anything yet. Is it okay to follow up by saying that I have an offer expiring soon but you are my top choice so I would take the offer if it is extended? Though I already told them during interview I have an offer but I have a stronger interest in joining that practice. I am thinking of sending a follow up email tomorrow morning.

I see no harm in following up. Although from what I have gathered, 3L hiring moves much more slowly and it is not unusual not not hear after 1-2 weeks.

OP here: This is actually a 2L hiring. It's already late in the cycle, so I assume the firm would try to make a decision pretty fast.

You don’t need to mention that you’d accept their offer if it was given (even if that may be true). Just inform them that you have an offer expiring on the date it expires, but you’re still interested in working with them because you thought you’d fit well at their firm. If they know you’re working on a deadline of an exploding offer, then they’re more likely to move on your application, and if they liked you, they’ll extend an offer.

Did you have a screener with the firm or did you just go straight to a callback? I’m in a similar position. Are you in LA by chance?

No, it's a DC firm. I did have a phone screener.
