Anyone doing pre—OCI? Is it only for the top of the class?

The group most likely to succeed with it are those at the top--but there is almost no reason not to put some effort in anyways. Just spend a couple hours for 2-3 days this week and send out like 50 apps. All it does is increase your options.

Are you referring to Regional OCI? I'm a recent alum, so it's possible things have changed, but I have never heard of an official "pre-OCI" program. Unless you're referring to people that get interviews from mass mailing firms before the OCI season starts.

0% screwed. You're probably right around median, and most people end up within the v50/v30 in that range.

FWIW, I am just one data point, but I was sub 3.0 and landed at a v50 in LA (without strong ties). I am certainly not the norm and could've easily missed the biglaw boat, but this just goes to show that at Penn, no one is fully closed off from biglaw, some just have better odds than others and/or more firms to pick from.

With a 3.33, you should do fine. Just do some practice interviews with CPP/COP and make sure you're interviewing well, and you should be all set.

Anon above.

For CA, firms look for strong ties. I'd definitely do the Regional OCI program for SF, SV, LA and CC and also mass mail. Probably best to save a lot of OCI bids for NY firms, because they have bigger class sizes, so much easier to get offers there.

OCI screener schedules out today, journals notification email reproduced below:

Dear Rising 2Ls,

On Friday, July 20, 2018 at 6:00 P.M. EST, journals will be contacting you about membership. Students will have until Saturday, July 21, 2018 6:00 P.M. EST to accept the offer.

All journals will send new members an acceptance email. Some journals may also call new members after emails have been sent. Please be sure that you have access to email and/or your phone during this time. You will only get one chance to accept or decline an offer by the deadline.

If you know that you will not have internet access between Friday, July 20, 2018 at 6:00 pm through Saturday, July 21, 2018 at 6:00 pm, you must contact Student Affairs at stuaffairs@law.upenn.edu by July 18, 2018 at 5:00 pm to say that you will not be able to check your email during that time.

Best,
Monica

The Penn thread is so dead compared to the others. How many screeners did y’all get? Are you happy with the amount?

13, not sure whether I should be happy that I got the firms I really wanted or sad that I didn't get a ton of screeners. How many did you get?

I got 22. I'm sure you can pick some up off the waitlist or at the hospitality suites. That's what 2Ls have told me.

I'm at 19 with 14 regionals. I have not started reaching out to anyone from any of these offices so the stress is real.

Picked up three firms off the waitlist. I don’t feel like there’s any firms that I really want to interview with that I didn’t get.

How much pre-OCI "networking" have you done? Feeling a bit antsy about the relatively few chats I've had going into the process.

It's not too late -- go to all of the receptions and message alum at firms you're interviewing with.

Has anyone that participated in regionals heard back from any of the firms they screened with?

Total radio silence here.

What are your stats? Alum here, I assume regionals happened last week?

I'd give it some time, it's only Monday, especially if your interviews were Thursday/Friday.

FWIW, I got my offer through regionals, and I'm currently a first year at that firm. My CB came about 2 weeks after my regional screener.

Around median - not worried anymore though, the rejections have started coming in now!

Anon alum from above. Since the regional OCI program starts usually before firms have gone to OCI at any schools, the firm doesn't know what its applicant pool is going to look like for this year. So typically only the all-start candidates get the immediate CBs, so for firms that haven't rejected you, don't lose hope, as they may just wait to interview some more applicants at different OCI programs they're attending before extending a CB to you.

(Presumably some) Paul comma Weiss callbacks yesterday, with dinner.

(Presumably some) DPW callbacks.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
