Has anyone got an interview scheduled for EOIR-OCIJ yet? Also, can anyone give me insight as to what I would be doing in this department? I can't find any information anywhere on the particulars of what an attorney in this component would be doing?

You would be doing a clerkship with one of the immigration judges across the country.

Does anyone know the approximate number of people they interview for a spot? Specifically EOIR-OICJ.

In the past, it was 4-5 people per spots in general. But I think EOIR is lower, like 2-3 per spot. I can't imagine they had 500 well-qualified applicants.

Anyone interview with SDNY, and did anyone make it to the second round?

The way I understand it is that they will do all the interviews in one day if you're from, say, CA, but if you're local like me they'll do it over a couple of days.

Can someone explain the pay policy? So if you had two clerkships the MAX you can start at is gs13 step 1??

Also, what if you get two offers or an offer before hearing back from another section?

Yes , straight out of law school GS11, some clerkship GS12, 2-3 years is experience is GS13 - but REMEMBER they do not have to offer that, that is up to the discretion of the office, but generally speaking gov't jobs follow the guidelines.

"Entry-level (Honors Program) Attorneys: Starting salaries for Honors Program attorneys are set at the discretion of the hiring office. Honors Program attorneys hired as Assistant U.S. Attorneys are subject to the salary policies for those offices. Honors Program salaries under the GS scale are based on the following qualifications:
•Law degree (J.D. or equivalent): eligible for a GS-11, step 1
•1 year of post-law school full time judicial clerkship experience: eligible for a GS-12, step 1
•1 year of post-law school full-time graduate law study (LL.M. or equivalent) or qualifying full time legal fellowship: eligible for a GS-12, step 1

•2 – 3 years of full-time judicial clerkships, or combination of 2 – 3 years of post-law school full-time clerkships, qualifying full-time legal fellowships, or a post-law school full-time graduate law degree program: eligible for a GS-13, step 1

for example if I get an offer I expect a GS12 offer- ( current judicial law clerk)

offer/acceptance
"Offers to law school graduates will remain open for at least two weeks after the date the offer was issued."

First you will have to find out if you are a finalist ( primary or alternate) due by Nov 16. If you are a finalist on both places and you get an offer from your second choice, I would contact HR and ask about your location on the list if you are a primary or alternate for your preferred. It might say on the website, I am not sure after finalists are selected.

Good Luck - I'm hoping to receive an offer as well :)

Some divisions are checking references within 24 hours of interviews.

Yes, I interviewed with them. Probably can’t be much help though. Each judge selected and interviewed different people.

I’m assuming it’s quiet because finalist selections aren’t out yet. Maybe not?

Yeah... Wonder if it is because applications are down under the Trump administration. I got more interviews than I thought.

Same. That ABL article about how if you do DOJ honors, you’re selling your soul to the devil probably didn’t help.

I LOL, at that article honestly. If one person's opinion ( who you don't know personally) affects your career choices and progression - Law, especially governmental law, is probably not the best avenue for you.

The judiciary and all governmental law have to practice under administrations they do not personally agree with - your work should not be influenced by your politics. ( once you join they will give you LOTS of training on that subject) ........

(Former active duty military, before law school and all my internships/clinics/externships were are government offices)

I hadn't seen that ABL article, but it is ridiculous for a number of reasons.

Why do you think that groob? *Edited for anon abuse.

Any idea when finalist status is updated or offers are made for the BIA?

Also, that article is ridiculous. If only those who are fanatically loyal work for any administration, the results can only be extreme. The sheer size of the federal workforce is its own balance on extremism.
