Re: DOJ Honors Program 2018-2019
Tax went up yesterday around noon. Both components (Civ and Crim) posted at the same time. I have zero tax experience so I'm a bit surprised. Interviewed with MLARS last year and ranked it first this year - didn't get it this time around.

Can you tell me your background?Anonymous User wrote:Also got some interviews, including SDNY USAO.
Do they REALLY need two LORs? Anyone have any inside info on this?

No luck for me this cycle--only applied to CIV and ENRD. Congrats to those with interviews, and best of luck with other endeavors to those without!

Has anyone heard from the FBI or any random districts that weren’t officially or informally participating.

I applied to Indian Country Fellowship and FBI. I received an interview offer from ICF but have heard nothing from FBI.

Does anyone know the approximate number of people they interview for a spot? Specifically the civil division.

Re: DOJ Honors Program 2018-2019
Hi everyone, 2018 grad here expecting to apply to the honors program next cycle. I was wondering if those who have secured interviews this year or positions in the past would mind evaluating where I stand in terms of competing for a spot.
Went to a T25, graduated Summa Cum Laude, current district court clerk and will be clerking for a non-feeder COA judge next term, Did 4 internships/externships within the DOJ during school (USAO - Crim, USAO - Civ, DOJ - ATR, DOJ - Crim FRD), Did LR/MC/RAs/etc.
Obviously, I think I have a shot and this post is largely a function of a little anxiety/gauging how extensively I should be looking into other job opportunities during the upcoming years.
I am mainly interested in Crim, USAOs, ATR (crim), NSD, and to a lesser extent CRT and Civil (non-immigration/torts) positions. Throughout law school my goal was always the honors program and with the actual application period looming, I am just getting nervous over how few spots there are and how competitive it seems.
Any advice or thoughts are greatly appreciated and please don't quote, if possible. Thanks!

Don't mean to be rude, but you're going to apply regardless of what we say, right?
I think you have as decent a chance as anyone, which is to say, it's going to be tough/hard to predict because it is for anyone. But you have the grades and clerkships and experience, and many/most components aren't pedigree conscious enough to care that you went to a T25 rather than a T14 (I think including a number of those you specify). I know of people from lower-ranked schools with similar stats who got into Crim. It will depend on how well you write your application and to some extent who's actually doing the hiring next year.
Keep in mind that apart from the USAOs (if participating informally), you will only be able to apply to 3 components within DOJ, so I would think about prioritizing. I have heard that Crim only hires people who rank it first, though I can't guarantee that that's at all accurate.
All that said, you absolutely should look into other job opportunities, because you never have a job until you have it and we don't know at this point how many openings there will be, etc. Though you will likely know by Thanksgiving-ish of the year you apply whether you get a position or not, and that's not at all too late to start applying to other stuff for when your clerkship is over.

Related to above post, any advice on things to do post-law school in the year before applying to help our application chances? Trying to think of volunteer opportunities, etc. that would help demonstrate an interest. Mainly interested in USAOs.

What are you actually going to be doing in that year? Clerking? Maybe if you're on a fellowship it will be different, but if you're clerking, there's not too much legally-related that you'll be able to do, I don't think. If you can network with AUSAs (or former) it will give you some info about the job so you can write an informed application, maybe.

This is directed to the person a couple comments above.
I don't really understand how it all works. I don't think anyone can for sure tell you how good of a chance you have. I got two interviews, and I didn't work for the DOJ during law school. I just did my thing during law school (pursued things I wanted to pursue). Currently clerking. Did really well at a non-T14. There are tons of qualified people. You for sure have a great shot, but WHO KNOWS WHAT THE DOJ GODS WANT.
I certainly don't.

Selected for interview with OIL and EOIR. Has the detailed email outlining scheduling interviews gone out? I haven't gotten an email and wanted to cover my bases.

I think the Justice website says they won’t know to schedule the interviews until you return the travel survey to them. I emailed them my survey Friday and haven’t gotten a response yet. I believe it says one office is coordinating all of the interviews so that might take time. So as long as you emailed them the travel survey I would think all you have to do is email your components the supplemental documents they want.

I emailed mine on Thursday, and I haven't heard back yet either! I just submitted the supplemental documents. We'll see when they start rolling out the interview dates!Anonymous User wrote:I think the Justice website says they won’t know to schedule the interviews until you return the travel survey to them. If my application says nothing except "recieved" what does that mean?

If you only applied for formal components, it means you weren’t selected for an interview.Anonymous User wrote:If my application says nothing except "recieved" what does that mean?
