Most DC firms have pretty hard cutoffs. Some of the lower ranked firms like Foley and Pillsbury are more flexible, but they are at most hiring 1 or 2 SA's from Duke.

If you want DC, I implore you to network and work your ass off to get some pre-oci movement in DC right now. A few years ago, before SA classes were down 25% across the board, a significant number of top 20% kids who thought they would walk into DC struck out more often than not.

This is coming from a median student who got dc. But I only got it through having offers from before OCI. During OCI, probably about 60% or more of kids who wanted DC completely struck out.

Not the previous anon, but don't be an ass when someone is giving you helpful advice. No one is going to be able to give you a list of what each firms hard and soft cut offs are.

Op poster here. If this is your attitude, good luck. You are gonna strike out in dc.

I gave you legitimate advice. Most dc firms have hard cutoffs. They can fill their classes exclusively with Harvard kids if they want. Remember, dc has less summer associates than LA. There are a handful of firms that have reached below cutoffs, with the two I remember off the top of my head being Foley and pillsbury.

But honestly, you sound like a dick. DC firms will see right through you if you act entitled and like a prick. Just some advice from a dc biglaw associate who now recruits for my firm.

No.
Well last year one journal's EIC completely inputted the wrong data after being weeks late in doing case note review and thus created a huge delay.

But even still, the process at Duke takes forever. The last few years people have gotten journal offers literally just days before OCI. You still have a few weeks to go in all likelihood.

DC is brutal. Most people underestimate its brutality. You can still get there even if you don't have a 3.7 with DLJ but you would need to hustle.

Alum here. It will be amazing to you all how many of your classmates think they will get dc and how few actually will even get a single dc offer. If you haven’t been hustling for dc hardcore over the past month, you better have a backup plan in place because it is a brutal market in dc.

Got most of what I wanted. Really surprised by how high some of the NY/DC firms went.

Got 23 screeners in total. Looks like a lot of people bid K&E and Latham NY early.

FYI, I am an alumni that did almost 40 interviews and wasn't alone in getting that many. There should be a second round of bidding soon if I remember correctly. If you are at 23-25, try to get to 30 if you aren't top 10-20%. If you do it right, you can pick up 10 or so extra interviews this way. Do it! At least as of a few years ago.

how many interviews do most people get? 23 seems like it's well above average.

Happy for everyone getting so many interviews but wow I got rocked. I missed on bids 2, 4, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11 lol. Aside from bid #2, each of those firms were multiple slots ahead of where you could have bid them and gotten an interview last year. Only 15 interviews total, mostly not w match firms or firms of primary interest. Hoping I get some luck from opt-in....

I got 19. Crap I thought I made such a good bid list. :(

In part, I think my selection is due to my GPA limitations. I had less freedom and avoided mega GPA firms.

19 is really good. I think most people get around 15.
