Billable Rate Compilation Info?

Post by Anonymous User » Tue May 22, 2018 9:28 pm

Anyone know where I can find this? I saw data from a few years ago somewhere (can’t find it) and I was curious if there was more updated information.

Or is there a thread here that talks about it?

This is just out of curiosity. I’m billing at $350 in a secondary market and my firm did not move to $180. Wondering if $180k firms bill juniors out at significantly higher rates.

I'm at a market paying firm. Our first years charge out at approximately $100-150 more per hour than you listed (not exact, and depending on if they've passed the bar yet).

My V10 bills first years out at $600 and second years at $700. I believe out lit associates cost a bit less, although not much. FWIW our realization rate is also extremely high (near 100%) and write-offs are pretty much non-existent. I'm still amazed every time I see our closing invoice and the flow of funds.

Thanks for the info! If first years are at 600 and you’re not at Wachtell, does this mean that there isn’t a huge spread between first years and partners? I’m assuming RPL is like 1.4m and $600/hr at 1800 (I’m assuming the average # of hours for a first year are greater than this, but just being conservative) is almost 1.1M. Obviously partners aren’t billing 1800 hours but still, that spread seems kind of narrow (I’m assuming the partners are billing at around $1000-1100/hr).

Guess it makes sense that my firm is NOT at $180k.

My firm (180k, not WLRK) bills ot associates from 550 to around 900, and partners from 1000 to 1600.

Had to proofread a bill literally yesterday.

This is my firm as well (v10, non-NYC, 180K base). Im a third year and bill out at 725-805 depending on client/engagement date (revised rate structure each year, billing tied to date of engagement letter - there is one large, long time client that I think I bill at less than 700).

Same at my NYC V20 - at least my group. Practice heads determine each group's billing rates. I'm a second year billing out at $640 (which is absurd). Larger clients have separately negotiated deals.
