Was it difficult finding a job post-clerkship? What is the timeline for job applications in a one year clerkship?

The firm I summered at after my 1L year mentioned the clerkship when they extended me an offer. That offer came before I actually started the clerkship but after the firm found out I accepted. If you want to apply for a one year (or a two year) clerkship, you need to get started unreasonably early. I completed my application on OSCAR around Christmas break during 2L year and interviewed with a few judges at the end of spring semester 2L year. So it's best to have a jump on things. In my experience with my Judge and with others in my district, they don't interview many people. In other words, they pick a handful and the 2-3 clerks come from that shortlisted pile. So getting your name in first can go a long way.

What do most firms do concerning bar stipends if you're clerking first? Do you still get them with the understanding you'll go to the firm after your clerkship, or are you out of luck?

This is really specific and you might not have an opinion on it but do you have any advice for a summer judicial intern? I'll be interning in a federal district court this summer and I've heard you mostly do work for the clerks. What do you like your interns to do and not to do? Anyway I can prepare for the internship?
