Does lateral rejection come via phone or mail?

Got to final round of the interview for a lateral position. I remember for oci usually a phone call was good and rejections would come in the mail. Is it usually the same for lateral interviews? It’s only been two days, but waiting is the worst.

I've only been rejected once, but it came via email.

Mine was via phone call. Though it was to explain that they weren't hiring anyone due to restructuring within the firm, so may have been slightly different.

Did you end up getting a rejection?

Usually email. I got one phone call where the recruiter left a message for me to call her back and then delivered the ding (which wasn’t anything detailed — just “we enjoyed meeting you but can’t continue the process at this time; keep in touch.”). I was actually a little annoyed because a voicemail would’ve gotten the job done, and the fact that she made me call her back got my hopes up.

That is absolutely brutal.
