This time last year I already had my 1L summer job settled. Of course, it was unpaid, but I was still happy. This year, however, I really, really need a paid job, I'm tight on cash.
Now I haven't got a single offer. I struck at OCI. I've been sending out apps for in-house legal interns positions, and then radio silence.
For the current 2Ls who haven't had a Biglaw offer yet, what are you gonna do for the upcoming summer? Or what job would look best in 3L OCI?

You aren't going to like this advice, but 3L OCI is much more diminished than it used to be. Given that you likely won't be at a big firm this summer, you need to recognize your chances of landing biglaw during 3L oci is pretty close to 0%. That just happens to be reality.
Given that, you should be focusing on small/mid sized firms that still are hiring in the field you are interested in. That will be your best bet. It won't be crazy money, but it would be something. Start planning for the real possibility that you won't land biglaw by graduation and figure out how to set yourself up for something else.

Consider taking a summer class. If you do, you can take out loans. Obviously sucks, but better than being homeless.

Do an externship for credit at a government office you'd be interested in working in or that's related to a practice area you want to be in. That will get you loans to cover expenses, and some good experience to try and pitch to potential employers going forward.

Is there any chance that any biglaw firms haven't completed hiring?

This, or see if your school has any summer abroad programs. Some of my friends got 12 credits for abroad programs over the summer and were able to graduate a semester early.RaceJudicata wrote:Consider taking a summer class. If you do, you can take out loans.
