Cover Letter Question

Post by taco bell breakfast » Sat Jan 20, 2018 4:00 pm

When a job / internship listed on Symplicity or elsewhere doesn't list a hiring contact, is there an appropriate way to address the cover letter? Apologies if this is a better question for my school's career services office, but they typically don't respond to e-mails on weekends.

I always went with "Dear Hiring Manager" rather than the generic "To Whom It May Concern" because that was too impersonal. If it's for a firm, I guess you could say "Dear Hiring Partner" even though that person will likely never read your cover letter -- someone in recruiting will.

If it's a law firm, look for a recruiter. If there is no contact info at all, address it to "Dear Members of the Hiring Committee:"

I think "Dear Firm Name" is good too.
