Florida (not-Miami) BigLaw

Post by Anonymous User » Thu Nov 09, 2017 5:03 pm

What does the Florida BigLaw legal market look like outside of Miami - specifically corporate/transactional. I imagine Orlando and Tampa are the biggest markets. Are there large corporate practices in particular areas? Is it M&A focused? Insurance focused? Real estate? Etc. Does banking and SEC-related work even exist? Latin America/international work or is that just Miami?

Outside of Miami, there aren't a ton of corporate/transactional jobs (obviously, the best markets are Orlando, Tampa, and West Palm). I'd say the most common are real estate, healthcare, and insurance. You'll find some limited opportunities elsewhere (I believe there are a few M&A jobs in West Palm), but they're a lot more rare. If you want to do international, your best bet is Miami.

McCool Smith has a Tampa office, but pay is lower than Miami.

do the international markets in Miami only focus on Latin America or can you find opportunities for Asia-related work too? Or do you have to go to places like New York or California for Asia related work?
