Need to worry about this?

I was an SA at a firm, got a full time offer, accepted. I applied to some 3L positions. I got a callback for one of these 3L applications....

My question is: Do I have to worry about my 2L firm finding out and rescinding? Especially if the practice interest I expressed in my 2L firm is different from the new 3L callback firm?

I feel like I should just cancel the CB since I am so worried about my other firm finding out (such as new firm calling old firm and asking 'did he get an offer?' 'did he want X practice group like he told us?')

People do this all the time and I have yet to hear of a firm rescinding (NB: I am sure it has happened, I just haven't heard of it). Go for the callback, just keep it on the DL.

Still no concern even though I told one firm 'I want to do Y' and the other 'I want to do X' [unrelated practices]?

The other firm isn't going to find out.

There is an array of strategies here, including letting your first firm know that, after some soul searching and an acid trip, you'd actually like to be in a different practice group. I might suggest waiting on doing that until after you've received an offer from the other firm. That is if you like the other firm more than your current firm.

Point is, there are a lot of options here. But short answer is that your first firm won't find out.

I don't think the other firm is going to ask them what type of work you were interested in as a SA. But the CB firm might call your old firm.

I just went through the 3L interviewing process with a SA offer.I was under the impression that firms I interviewed with only called my old firm if they were ready to extend an offer (one firm told me this). However, when I called my SA firm to tell them I was not accepting the offer and going somewhere else, the recruiter asked me if I chose firm X or Y. I had CBs at X and Y but only one offered me.
