I think this really depends on firm/group. I imagine some NY shops - not long. DC regulatory? Shit maybe 8 years.

Obviously depends, but I think you could get away with it for 2-3 years at my WC office of a V50 firm. By year 4 responsibilities increase so much that I really doubt you would be able to bill only 1600 hours.

Note- I'm not saying it from experience, but yeah, lockstep market comp. You're not going to make bonus (obviously), but a lot of the regulatory practices at my firm don't do a ton of billing. My firm's target is ~2k for bonus, but only about 50% of associates hit it, and once controlling for stuff like associates that don't work for a full year, most of the ones that miss are regulatory associates.

Easy 2 in NYC corp, 3 would rapidly become an issue.
