Anonymous User wrote:Hey guys I'm someone who will be doing the 3L OCI 2018 and I understand there is a great amount of difficulty and some would say next to impossible.

That being said people who have been successful this year (those who got offers and also those of you who got callbacks) would you mind sharing your story a little bit?

Perhaps factors such as which law school (vague ranking such as t10, t20 etc is fine), your GPA (if you don't mind or a range if you prefer), and perhaps why you believe you didn't get it through 2L OCI?

I'm not seeking to shame or make anyone feel bad I just want stories to have an idea of "those who made it why were they originally there and how did they do it"

Thank you guys for your time
Not directly responsive, but I'm a first-year who just started after not having a 2L SA and I got hired in January of 3L. I think for me, the most important thing was narrowly-tailoring my resume/cover letter for my practice area of interest. You have to realize that it's a different ballgame than 2L and some luck definitely comes into play, but for 2L SAs firms are hiring for basically everything so they care much less. In 3L, firms are hiring for specific practice areas and you have to come across as the best candidate for that group. You want your resume to scream dedication to that practice area if you want to have any success at all. Networking also plays a much more sizeable role as a 3L and certainly helped me.

I went to a T20 and finished top third, but when I was interviewing for 2L I was between median and top third. I do think that played a factor in my not getting hired out of the gate, but my GPA/school combo when I was ultimately hired wasn't exactly top of the ladder either compared to some here.

I don't want to out myself, but if anyone wants more info on how it worked out for me I can PM.
I'd love to hear more about how it worked out for you. PM please! :)

Congrats! Do you mind sharing around when you had your CB? Did you have Banking-related experience before?
Thanks! CB was mid-August. No banking experience.
Did they ever call your old firm to confirm your offer? I heard they do this

To all massmailers - just wanted to advocate for checking your spam folder frequently. I almost missed a callback invite. Not a vault firm, so not a useful data point, but still!

Damn. To the Morgan Lewis poster. Mind sharing if you applied for lit or corp and if 2L SA in the same market? Also applied to Morgan Lewis Philly and was dinged pretty quickly.

Post screening ding from Morgan Lewis. Got dinged from offices I didn't apply to also. The second they heard I was no offered they seemed uninterested. Not sure what firms are expecting almost 2 months past when SA offers came out.

Interesting. Last week ML called me to setup a screener and, despite me in my cover letter and resume saying ''offer given'', they asked twice on the phone to confirm.

I found out through a contact they were/are hiring junior associates (although not sure if entry-level) in DC for particular groups.
To answer your question, the email just said they couldn't offer me an interview.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
