Bay Area Diversity Career Fair 2017

Post by Anonymous User » Wed Jun 21, 2017 9:41 am

Hello all! I don't see a thread for this year yet. Does anyone know the timeline for when we can hope to receive pre-selects?

Feel free to use or alter this format for pre-selects:

School:
Rank:
Ties to Bay Area?:
IP?:
URM/Affiliation?:

# of bids:
# of Pre-Selects:
# of Alternates:

Any idea when we find out about screeners? I thought it would be today?

Did this last year. Had about 10 screeners (all pre-selects). Only got 1 callback.

Maybe it was my interview skills but a lot of people I talked to ended up in similar situations. I did fine at my school's OCI. Would skip if I could do it over again.

Just to represent a different perspective, I am really glad I did this and I think if you have good grades and want to work in the Bay Area, you should definitely participate if you qualify. It took so much pressure off going into OCI to already have an offer from BADCF.

I had 8 screeners, 8 callbacks, and 6 offers. I think my success was a function of having good grades, WE, and ties to the Bay Area. I did OK at OCI, but not nearly as well as I did here. Also FWIW, OMM gave me a callback at the conclusion of the screener. For other firms, it took between 2 days and a week.

Wow, 8 for 8. Congrats. Can I ask how good your grades were and if you were coming from a T13?

Got about 10 screeners; both MOFO offices (SF/PA) turned me down.

I am a little concerned about the polar responses about screener/callback ratio that I heard from different people; will really appreciate more info from people who have done this so I don't waste valuable screener opportunities with firms that I am really interested in. (most allow only one)

My best guess for the polar responses is that these pre-OCI screeners really are looking for top credential candidates. Anyone from low T1/top T2 schools?

Top 1% at T2 school.

School: T6
Rank: Median to Top 1/3 (we don't rank)
Ties to Bay Area?: No
IP?: No
URM/Affiliation?: No

# of bids: 13
# of Pre-Selects: 4
# of Alternates: 1

Looks like this fair is really only for tip top candidates, pretty feast or famine. I'm probably just throwing money away for attending, but I hope it's at least good interview practice.

An alternate way to read this would be that the Bay Area Diversity fair employers tend to prioritize candidates with Bay Area ties or URM status.

I concur, and I guess I should have clarified. I am of a minority group, but am not URM. I think it would be unfair to equate diversity = URM status only, but I guess it's highly possible this fair was meant only to scoop up URMs and top 10%s.

Did anyone else get an email from Cooley saying that they had added time slots? Initially, I was not selected.

Does anyone know when the interview schedule will come out? does it guarantee an interview spot if you accept a pre-select?

My preselect schedule was posted yesterday in the morning but disappeared a few hours later. Strange.

Second. Had 3 screeners, 2 call backs. T30, top 1/3, WE and ties to the Bay Area. Not urm.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
